I just found out about the video capabilities of the new Nikon D3s Camera shooting video in HD at 24fps, 1,2080x720 resolution, for up to 5 minutes duration per scene, and with incredible high ISO light grabbing features. It also has a external stereo mic capability. And, this is all onto a "full frame" 35mm sensor.

This has give me SERIOUS doubts about purchasing a Scarlet when the ONLY features it has that the Nikon does not, that I can see, are that the Scarlet can shoot in RAW and in high speed (150fps). This hardly seems to matter when you consider the $4,800.oo price of the Nikon, and all the features it comes with, especially with a larger sensor than the Scarlet has.

As I continue to investigate the Nikon D3s, I will keep everyone interested updated as to what I learn.

Please feel free to post replies with different opinions and why.

Thanks.

PEACE !!

George... we have asked (quite a few times now) that all DSLR discussions go to DVXuser. Thanks.

Jim,

We need you to take at least 1 day off. We need you to be fresh for Monday. :)

How about modularity and ability to upgrade firmware? And, IMO, RAW is enough of a reason by itself.

On second thought, I think you should buy the Nikon. (Then I don't have to compete with you when I order my Scarlet).

There is no reason for everyone to get so obviously offended. I was posting a thought, nothing more. If that's a sin, so be it. George,

If you do some searching online about Moire, Aliasing and slow rolling shutter, you will see why people are frothing at the mouth to get a Scarlet, or anything that is not the current DSLRs on the market. Line skipping is a very very limiting problem with these DSLRs and is the reason they have such a wide variety of situations in which they will not work.

I think people around here get tired of explaining what exactly the difference is. But rest assured, as a DSLR owner that I am, I will very happily be getting rid of it when the Scarlets start shipping.
