By the way: PUSQ = Potential Uber Stupid Question ;-)

Firmware update states "Target REDcode feature"
Already in Beta-Stage i asked myself: What is this feature all about.
We were able to set the desired Red Code from the first firmware version, so i guess just
"setting the REDcode" can't be the swag of this new Feature.

Sorry if this is a really stupid Question, but can anybody enlighten me what this feature
is and where/how i can activate/use it, if ever?

My guess...
If you set a target at 5:1 and then shot a couple of high speed shots then when going down to normal speed again it goes back to your target... thats my guess, but I'm as curious as you Sascha.

I don't think it's a stupid question, I was wondering the same thing. Even if it is a stupid question, how else can you get an answer other by asking? If ya don't know, ya gotta ask.

Like Björn said, it means it'll try to stay at your selected compression when changing framerates. If it can't use the compression you've selected, it'll use the lowest compression it can.

For example on the Scarlet-X, you're shooting 2K 60fps and have selected 3:1 compression. You then change to 4K 25fps. Instead of telling you to change compression, the camera'll use 6:1 and if you switch back to 2K 60fps the compression will again be 3:1. Before this function you would've had to manually switch to 6:1 for 4K and then back to 3:1 for 2K.

As described above. However the key point is that camera will no longer let you screw yourself on a key shot by shooting 13:1 or similar when you just ran a slomo for coverage / interest in a few off moments. Been there, done it, got the ugly file t-shirt. I was very happy to see this feature, having asked a few times for something like this to be implemented :)

Yeah, just calling it "Target Redcode Feature" in the notes doesn't tell you that much. But (I think) Jarred had said this was coming in this build a few weeks back, and he referred to the feature then as Target Redcode.

On set it won't change much. But for the love of your post houses, use it. It'll give you the best data rate you can get no matter how often you change frame-rates.

This is a great feature, long overdue.
It's easy when working quickly on set, when going back to normal speed, after doing high-speed, to leave the compression rate at the higher level.
Very appreciated.

Yes just work as before but camera will remember what your target REDCode was and will do its best to get back to that setting as soon as possible instead of sticking to latest / lowest setting...

It's not a special option. You just set the desired REDCODE as always and your camera uses it or whatever the closest usable value for your current resolution and framerate is. REDCODE-setting on LCD will go yellow if you are not at the target. Set it to the lowest compression and you'll always record in best quality, even when wildly switching between 4k@24, 5k@12 and 1k@120...

Smart little feature.
