  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

PROMETHEUS Reaction (((NO SPOILERS till June 8)))

It is one of those films where you have to switch your brain off to enjoy it (script wise).... I had hoped for more, and there were unexplored or badly explored ideas that really could have shined, with better writting.... but it was entertaining enough and beautifully shot. As someone who visits Iceland alot, I could happily sit and just watch the scenery.

The shots around Dettifoss (the huge waterfall) at the start were mind blowing, some of the best 3D yet.

visually stunning ,
story not even close to the quality of the visual ... script is not good to me at all . it does not really build ,it just move on and on until it finish , some great moments of course tough .

1 question : can i buy my own quality glasses to will work with RealD and imax 3D , i have seen it in imax 3D and the quality of those plastic glasses suck , the lenses was bad (dirty etc..),the design feel very weird on me , too light , also tilting my head just a bit the all image was getting out of focus ...

so is it possible buy high quality glasses compatibles with those systems ?

thanks

It was like a story written by several nine year-old goofballs under the influence of crack and/or bath salts, each vomiting their contribution to this train wreck without regard to the others or any sense of rationality. I left the theater feeling like I had just swallowed a two-dollar bag of crushed ice.

Why do I care? Because it is terrible publicity for the Epic. I certainly will not be touting our Epic to my clients as the camera that shot Prometheus.

Good shooting and best regards,
Leo

While your criticisms are graphic and visually stimulating in their own right, they don't speak to the photography of the film at all. Why would you damn the visuals based on failures of plot?

I did not address the cinematography and certainly did not "damn" them, because Prometheus is a movie, not a camera test. Of course the arts and craftsmen did a wonderful job, but no effort, however Herculean, could save this turkey.

It's just very, very sad.

Saw the movie a 2nd time ...

Saw the movie a 2nd time ...

I saw the movie a 2nd time (in 2D), and enjoyed it. It's not a "holy-wood" plot, where things branch at specific times and question are answered in specific sequences. For example, before the title page comes up, the entire plot is stated - linking the ancient Prometheus legend to the "actual" Prometheus in the movie. The movie is really explained in that 2 minutes before the title page comes up(and btw after the title, Prometheus is not shown again). I can't think of a major movie where the actual protagonist is only shown before the title, and the actual antagonist is only shown late in the third act. At some level this irritates me, at another level I really enjoy the spatial tension( I think 70% of the audience likes this, 20% hate it).

From a hollywood financial viewpoint though(i.e. this is good from a producers viewpoint on shooting with epic), the movie has some legs (I bet a bunch of other people aside from me will see it multiple times). Also the public reviews are generally perty good. From the public data, the numbers are doing good ... even as a R rated movie AND the movie was reasonably CHEAP to make. I'm sure the blue ray sales will also be huge. The movie creates an entire new world, this further gives more "legs" to the movie in down channel derivative works. I think the cool thing about Riddley is he challenges the community in his films. This movie also set's up the epic as the goto camera for SFX heavy films (i.e. even if a movie is shot on alexa, SFX scenes will be shot on epic ... due to financials ... and the fact that the epic footage&SFX can so easily be matched with arri and lower quality media).

Well, there's a good chance we may see a sequel now. Prometheus is doing better than expected at the box office. Came in 1st place with $21m+ on Friday. At least $55m expected for the weekend.

Technically, the film was mostly strong.

In all other aspects, utter rubbish. It makes Avatar look like a masterpiece of storytelling. Perhaps this is a much needed and timely reminder for everyone that a big budget, cutting edge cameras and powerful computers will never compensate for fundamental weakness in script and direction.

Major disappointment.

I saw it last night and, like everyone has been mentioning, the 3D was phenomenal and the images look amazing. However, unlike many people, I really enjoyed the story. It wasn't boring and it wasn't a bad script (IMO), it just wasn't a thrill ride type movie. I thought that it touched on some incredibly interesting ideas and comfortably took the time to ponder them, without wrapping them up with some half-baked action / horror conceit. I will say that a few of the dialogue lines were a bit clunky and that the guy who played Holloway was a horrible casting choice. That said, the images and soul of this movie overcame all of that. Excellent film.

I'm always in the mood for a good joke and this one had me in stitches. In terms of storytelling, Avatar works because it recycles a formulaic plot that has been used in at least 10 other films. I'm not going to say that Prometheus is spectacular in terms of the story but it does have ambition and originality which Avatar sorely lacks. People love trolling this film for some reason as if it slapped their mothers or something. But, that is the state we are in when it comes to user-generted movie criticism.

The good news: the trailer looked awesome. The bad news: the trailer deceived me out of $20

What were you expecting, the love child of 2001 and Avatar? I highly doubt that you actually want your money back, unless your expectations were in the stratosphere. Come back to earth. This film was no masterpiece but it was certainly good enough to be worth the price of admission, even if it was just because of the visuals.

Did we see the same movie? I swear, people must have been expecting the best film in the whole world based off of these reviews. It has a 75% on RT and guys like Ebert and Roeper gave it glowing reviews so it obviously was good in the eyes of some people. I can see that the trolls are out in force. If you are hesitant to tell clients that the Epic was used on Prometheus than nothing I say will have any effect. Red obviously isn't ashamed of the fact that Ridley used the Epic and the fact that you are is beyond comprehension.

It was an objectively poor story.

You mean as in the fact that the script is poor is an objective fact? So anyone what liked the script is just flat out wrong I guess.

It has been said, that there is no such thing as bad beer, only better beer. So too that ethos might be applied to movies. Whilst there might be rare exceptions, on any project, at least some people will be doing their very best to make it all happen as close to perfection as possible in their respective niche skill areas.

I loved it- number two in the list of alien movies. My only complaint is that it IS one of the alien movies. It shared more than DNA with the original series, and I was expecting less prequel/ more stand-alone.

Also the people that don't like it were still probably freaked out a bit by the scary stuff. Not going to mention specifics, but there was some sick stuff in there.
