  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

PROMETHEUS Reaction (((NO SPOILERS till June 8)))

He doesn't call her "mom." He calls her "Ma'am" which, with his particular accent, sounds like "mum."

Nope, he says "mum" which as far as I know can be used to say "ma'am" and "mom" and England. It could an accident or Lindelof is being deliberately ambiguous. It's not his accent, he is deliberately saying "mum".

definitely. I've seen it twice and specifically paid attention to what he called her. "mum".

Don't Brittish subordinates use Mum in deference to women in power? I'm remembering many lines of dialogue in which a servant would call the lady of the house Mum. Is it possible he was being sarcastic?

most likely considering Vickers keeps trying to tell everyone she is in charge when in fact she never is.... He calls her that after he just spoke to Weyland who is in charge.

They are running from a Xenomorph or from the black goo itself... They obviously have encountered them before because there is a painting of it depicted on the ceiling in the chamber.

They have biological weapons to destroy humanity. One of them must have been infected by the goo.... That must be what they are running from as the one who was decapitated was infected as well.

He seems surprised when he drinks the goo because he was the first one to test it. He was a "sacrifice" but surely didn't know what the stuff entailed. Yes humanity was created from his DNA.

Ok... if they were running from the goo then why did they go into the chamber where all the goo is?. It would be the last place i would run. If they ran from an infected person why is the engineer who didn't make it to the door still intact (other than his severed head) Surely he would have been food ?

What happened to the other two engineers? One got put on ice but where did the other two go?

Also, the whole idea of impregnation. The aliens can only breed using a womb. Perhaps that is what earth is for. To impregnate the women on earth? Like a breeding ground for manufacturing more weapons. In other words the engineers created the goo, the planet they were on was a breeding ground where they picked up (harvested) their biological weapons but something happened, like a freak storm or they were under attack.

The goo is a very sophisticated virus. It can go into the blood stream of a man, impregnate a woman through his semen, kill the man, also making him kill all other men (like rabies) and then keep the woman alive to impregnate her.

Perhaps that is what David read as the mission and why he likes the idea of being the destructer of (human)life on earth?

Now, here is the twist. The engineers dont have any women that we see. How do they regenerate?

Also, the spaceship has been there two millenia, which is roughly the time of christ. Is this a take on the immaculate conception? Given the mural is very spiritual and a womb as a godhead?

This explains everything

Ah what a bummer but even in 2k the film looks great.

Will, It was a 2K DI so there is no 4K master.... Therefore, even if it's played through a 4K projector it's still only 2K...

Does anyone know the backstory behind the Lawrence of Arabia clip they used? I am specifically interested in finding out whose idea it might of been to bring that world into the production, if indeed neither Lindelof or Scott were responsible. I think i read somewhere that it wasn't in the script.

Watched Lawrence yesterday and i think there is more than a casual connection between he and android David. Father issues, who do you serve, who are you? etc. Also read somewhere that the title Prometheus was at a studio exec's suggestion. Big David Lean fan i presume. One of Leans early films ,The Sound Barrier, was about a plane called Prometheus and its effort to break the sound barrier. Kind of a holy grail at the time. The film also features as at its heart a wealthy aircraft manufacturer's quest to achieve that goal at the risk of his test pilots lives, and the strain that puts on his relationship with his daughter. Sounds a bit familiar.

Haven't see anyone talk about this connection despite countless other theories seemingly based on far less. Is Prometheus just an overly elaborate David Lean homage?

This was one of the most clever devices in the script...wish they had gone further here... but this genius makes it all the harder to understand the inclusion of all the other mind numbingly stupid scenes

like the final payoff scene... which is the brith of a XENOmorph that went to the dentist and got porcelain veneers and human pink gums!

Lawrence of Arabia and David:

Personal level. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aDsbzr41Msc

Plot level (Davids inner world): He has an inner conflict between helping humans which created him and wanting the engineers to succeed. This closely represents Lawrence's inner conflict and the major theme in Lawrence of Arabia, the film.

Current sociological political theme: A man who is fighting in the middle east and gets a conscience between loyalty to his military state and the arab people he is fighting with. The crusaders problem.

Film industry level: Sony is releasing Lawrence of arabia on blu ray, directors cut this year with 4k scans. Lawrence of arabia was shot in 70mm.

I assumed David liked Lawrence of Arabia because it was an outsider who learns to fit in among foreigners, learn their ways and ultimately become accepted by them--even going so far as leading them. Another one of the few examples of really great direction and writing that largely falls flat without sustenance.
