Don't get me wrong, the film LOOKED really good. The special effects were great as well...and yet...
It's hard to criticize the story without going into spoilers...but to put it simply:
- The characters seemed to undergo personality transplants every 15 minutes or so, and the decisions some of them made were just...ridiculous.
- The film created way too many questions, which weren't resolved. This doesn't surprise me, considering Damon Lindelof of LOST wrote the script.
- The characters were paper thin. The only person I actually cared about was our android friend Mr. Fassbender.
- Random un-introduced crew members seemed to pop up all over the place...in pretty important roles.
- The twists and turns all took place within the final 10 minutes of the film. I was still wrapping my head around one concept, and they were throwing 10 others at me!
BUT...I am excited to see a sequel, provided they address some of these script and story issues. It felt more like a big build up to a potential sequel film, rather than a satisfying stand alone piece.
Alien never built up to Aliens. It created an idea, toyed with it, and resolved it.
