  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Looks like Pro Res is coming to Weapon.
 
No tangible evidence yet. It would be welcome for many, but too early to be excited. I think NAB 2015 will give us a better camera + new accessory(s). But would stand down on the Prores
 
Well, the preNAB takeaway is that we definitely are getting a new and improved camera and storage option(s). Less than a month for the big reveal.

The Pro Res dialogue is still ongoing. But Jarred indicated there is more than one Weapon configuration, possibly outfitted with a different recording module. (my words, not Jarred)
 
@Bob G: If there is a Pro Res option. I'm going to take an opposing view that the side module will be a factory installed, dual slotted module. Availability will be exclusively Weapon due to bandwidth requirements.

It would be so nice to see RED listed as Certified Apple Pro Res Partner
 
A factory installed module isn't really a module at all. It is the making of another model.

With all of this talk about ProRes, I'm not seeing an actual quote from Jarred mentioning it. Where would that be?

I don't see it.

I read Jarred as joking; If Arri and ProRes represent sanity, Red prefers to stay insane. No ProRes.

Move along people. There's nothing to see here.

One of Red's biggest flaws... no ProRes love. Hopefully Weapon will change this.
 
why have a pro res module? why not just change the record setting from raw to pro res? or even better, why not record both on the same card?
 
this is gonna cost me money, Ill need to stock up on more Red gear. :)
 
Seems crystal clear from Jarred's post that prores is now in weapon positively.

No extra module. Everything is streamlined. Records raw and protes to same card at same time. Awesome.

My guess is that we would be dealing with a 6K prores file in any flavour of prores you choose.

There are many possibilities.
-offspeed recording
-pr only 4444HQ mode?
-r3d and proxy mode? (ala jpeg and RAW)
-r3d only mode
-RLF proxies and RC4 monitoring

My guess is that it like HDR X you might loose some compression or speed options when certain modes are enabled or. It's the unicorn camera we have all been waiting for. :)
