One thing I'd love to see in CS5 - continue editing whilst playing back from the timeline - why oh why does playback stop EVERY time I touch anything? C'MON Adobe, we CAN multitask ya know - try this with Edius - it saves millions of keystrokes daily.

I agree with this - it can be a bit daunting to not hear anything until they announce the full product! That said, I'm really excited to see what Apple does with the next version of Final Cut Studio - judging by Logic switching to 64 bit recently I'm guessing that Final Cut will, and I'm hoping for a nicer interface as well (I'm guessing that it will be redone in Cocoa). Not that the interface is terrible, but it would be nice to dock some of the windows together...
As for Premiere, what I would love to see is better integration with After Effects. I've used Dynamic Link but it was way too slow, so the only thing I could do was to import my Premiere projects into After Effects to do a bit of colour correction and my titles and things, but if my edit changes at all then there's no way to change it without a lot of work... And I've had problems with edit points being a few frames out doing this too (this was in CS3 though, so I don't know if it's improved).
Because of this, I am jumping on to Final Cut as soon as the next version comes out (even if I didn't have a Mac it would probably be worth getting one for Color alone) and while I will probably buy Photoshop and After Effects CS5 for compositing and motion titles, I don't think I'll bother with Premiere (although I might get it because it will probably be cheapest to buy the Production suite, but I doubt I'll use it).
Well,
I just heard that Adobe has a position open for manager of the Premiere Pro team?! So, this close to the CS5 launch, this is not a good sign of stability and the coming of things we've asked for...Just hoping I'm wrong on this, but history has mostly proven otherwise.
Agreed. It's not the new RedColor/RedGamma yet, but those of us beta testing are pushing from the inside to get it implemented ASAP (not just for CS5 but also as an updated plugin for CS4). And with the new 10K width limit, editing 4.5K is doable today
Mercury is also a BIG DEAL....![]()
I wish for ATI/AMD cards support (or an open standard). Marriage to a single hardware manufacturer is NEVER a good thing, specially $$$$-wise.
AMD is a capable hardware manufacturer and I'm sure we'll see plenty of power and cost ratio in upcoming products from them.
We hear you.
For that we de-bayer etc on the fly at 2K then run it through the pipeline.
I am seriously thinking about doing something I have never done before and pre-order a GTX 480. Its a risk as the MPE may not fully work with the card, however i cant afford the equiv. FX card. I am going to upgrade to CS5, thats pretty much a given. People have alluded to the fact that as a Fermi Card it will be officially supported in the near future. I technically don't need the fully functional MPE until Scarlet anyway but have a lot of effects work to do in the meantime.
I'm concerned slighly for a backlog on release. I have been holding off on buying a card for a while and am stretching it a bit now. I don't really want to pointlessly buy a GTX 295.
What do people think?
We will support the GTX 480. CS5 will run with 480 day one, but will not recognize it for CUDA accelerated running until we get an update out. That update will be sometime this summer depending on what we find as we start really digging deep on it.
Beta support will be showing up in our pre-release very soon after we get CS5 out the door .... that could be a path for many of the people here.

Great to hear this!
I wonder if you can answer a more general question: As an Edius user, I find the overall playback quality on that applications "monitors" is far better than that offered by the Adobe Player in the current incarnation of Prem. Pro.(CS4) Edius offers the user a choice of playback "engine". these are called Direct Draw and also Direct 3D9. Whilst I understand that the Prem player operates in a different way, the Direct 3D9 player in Edius offers a kind of simulated field based playback which produces extremely fine images on this NLE.
My question really is: does the MPE slated to appear in CS5 replace the current Adobe Player and produce similar high quality images within the NLE, this is particularly pertinant when using a laptop without an external monitor option and of course when playing higher quality RED or other HD material.
thanks
Paul
Hey Simon,
I've noted this on the prerelease forums as well, but I really hope you guys can incorporate the Redcolor/Redgamma FLUT™ workflow before release. Think of the positive publicity you will garner when you have Mysterium-X support out of the gate, renderless, up to 10K, all while FCP is still waffling about with proxies etc. You'd have a HUGE number of people convert IMHO, and with justification! CS5 really is an amazing update....
Cheers from Tokyo,
Paul
Hayhurst, do you guys expect dual 480's in SLI to be recognized and work for CUDA?
It will likely be much cheaper if it did show a significant benefit over a single 480.
