  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Posts disappearing...

Well what happened to the elvin post where he said he lost interest and anyone who was still interested could go.....themselves ?

jb

I am not an elf thank you very much:angry2:

And although I felt this childish thread warranted a childish retort, I though the better of it and deleted it. HA! so there! Self censoring! Or do I not have the right to change my own mind now either?

Controversial

Controversial

Maybe it is time to create a new thread called "Controversy" and move this one there?

Jim

I like it! Can we widen the topic so that people can complain about the dioxin levels they're finding in Naplese Mozzarella producing Buffalo? :shiftyph34r:

Seriously though, people on reduser seem a lot more tetchy than usual and someone like Jarred only has to use a comma instead of a fullstop (period) and people are up in arms. I don't understand this hunger to find fault and conspiracy.

Is it perhaps an indicator of the success of REDs open community that people claim such strong ownership over any RED information? Or maybe it's just the tension with the lead up to NAB thats making people so fiesty?

I think one of the main reasons for all this confusion is that it can be really hard to find threads if they're moved. It may help you to subscribe to a thread so you can find it in your "Quick Links" under "Subscribed Threads" - and it would help TREMENDOUSLY if the search on the site was better - 'cause it actually sucks.

I am sorry you have taken it that way. If we stopped serving one customer, you would hear them scream bloody murder on this site. Quite the contrary... there was a thread about how much the RED team bends over backwards for our customers. We don't always get things right, but you have to kill us to stop from trying.

Jim

"We reserve the right to refuse service to anyone with a bad attitude."

I have to say this tag does concern me also and since we are still waiting for our cam - I feel I have to be careful what I question... I'm sure Jim your fair - but going from your very passionate posts about the red - its hard to tell what the line is.. :)

anyways...

I think this has been covered many times. Although, maybe this has been deleted my a moderator with a sense of humour.

Have you heard the saying that in business, '80% of your problems come from 20% of your clients.' Of course you don't work with people who have a bad attitude. But the problem here is that no-one has defined 'bad attitude.' Given that no-one seems to have been refused service even though there have been some reasonably challenging posts, it would seem there is a fairly high tolerance for 'bad attitude' at Red. At least Red warns customers. I don't. I just find a way to not work with people who are a pain.

Everyone...

Sometimes things get moved for reasons that arn't immediately visible.

Sometimes other companies request a post be removed.

Sometimes people email me privately and ask to take something down.

Sometimes.. I just feel like it. It's one of those things that I am allowed to do once in awhile.. because it's my house and I pay the bills.

And trust me... If RED censored posts that said bad things about the company, 50% of the posts last month would of ended up in the trash bin.

It's your forum and you're entitled to do what you like with it!

Some suggestions though:

If it's just been moved then link where it's gone (I think this already happens, but too lazy to go check!)

If other companies request a remove then leave the thread/post title with that explanation "Removed at request of..." or "NDA material removed" or as appropriate?

If emailed privately about individual's stuff - again leave the thread/post title saying "Removed at poster's request".

If it's because you feel like it - leave title, with something like "Removed by Jarred/Moderator's Name - not appropriate for this forum". At least then anyone with a gripe about removal can PM/email the person who removed it for an explanation, without contributing further to the noise ratio.

I think this might just help to reduce the perception that there is rampant censoring, even though I'm sure it's untrue.

*** Moderator editing of a person's post should be avoided - it's too easy to inadvertently change the exact meaning of what they wanted to say ***.

It makes me shake my head to see people bashing other forums here on reduser, in particular cinematography.com

This is usually because their is a perception of anti-red bias. You claim to want an open and freethinking community, but clearly that is not what you have.

Vigourous discourse and free speech usually make for a better and more rounded view.

jb

That only goes so far.. Then "free speech" goes to "Free Attack"

Can we say Phil Rodes anyone?

If posts are being deleted on here, then that's a bad deal and I do not support it. But I say what I feel and think, and I do not recall my stuff being banned.

c.com has some gems in there for information, but you have to wade through a shit load of fighting... Sorry, better things to do with my time.

I find this forum very well administered and it´s always a good read.
However the "scratch price"- thread was not well administered at all. I now stand as threadstarter on a thread I have never made called "moving threads", which is a mess of some of the posts from the "scratch-price" thread luki didn´t like, but had no reason to delete...
I must say, I have seen many things on internet forums, but never an admin making threads on behalf of other users.

Now lets go back to the praising and worshippin´

That makes sence...
If it itches just SCRATCH it.
And its going to be those sort of associations that come to mind in the future.

I don`t like being hustled or mislead, bambuzzeled or manipulated. I don`t want a tee-shirt or to get the opportunity of hob-knobbing with the Cool Hip Crowd.

I will make my desisions of what products to use and what facilities to give my hard earned money to based on the quality of the product and the service provided not the hype and shameless self promotion practiced by some of the peddelers on this site.

Moved Threads-Twice the cut off point was right after my posts where I pointed out that I as the average Joe with big dreams and little means found enormous value in the knowledge contributed by what Laguun posted here...I recommended other newbies to do as I do and gather those posts and save on their hard drive as I do and review before making any hasty desicions. I mentioned how grateful both myself and my wallet are for that open knowledge.

In this day in age when ethics is everything branding has to be backed up by behavior otherwise with the possibility of world wide instant word of mouth a company can be stopped dead in its tracks. The ultimate deletion...Game over...MATE.

As Joe Shmoe I tryed to get in contact with some of the Big Boys here and 99% couldnt be bothered to give me the time of day not even open enough to anser the simplest of inqueries everyone except for Laguun and a very few others. But when the scent of very concrete cash entered into the equation then the mock open and friendly charade of their public personas on the boards here kicked in and the backs turned to face me with open arms. That says alot.

The old saying of meeting people on the way up and on the way down is even more true today with the great leveler of the internet. Red being a perfect case in point of how those principles can be utilized to create nothing short of a movement based on the quality and service surrounding a revolutionary product.

As far as I am concerned SCRATCH has been SCRATCHED-OFF my list as an option, no matter what it can or cannot do I stopped believing anything anyone representing it has to say about it because of the condonement of silencing opposing points of view.

Dog Day

And for the record, any black lists being made, my real name is Nick Wolf.
