  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Posts disappearing...

But when the scent of very concrete cash entered into the equation then the mock open and friendly charade of their public personas on the boards here kicked in and the backs turned to face me with open arms. That says alot.

Don't move to Hollywood.

I have no intention of doing so, and with this tecnique offered to us by Red for example we can compete where ever we are creating projects with exceptionally high production value for much less.

Also one of the main points of attraction is who they are at Red, the practicing of their selling rhetoric. It makes a huge difference.

No one wants to assist the greedy. Its about the marriage of values and quality. Anything else is a Turn Off.

Well greedy with a vision is honest, win win is honest, I get something you get something creating possibility for each other is hoenst. I am all for free enterprize and gather wealth if thats your thing. Its not the money which is evil its what you do or dont do with it. And the methods employed to achieve that aim. There are many many ways to skin a cat.

Though advertising and giving the impression of representing something and then having diverging practices is actually nothing more than simple deception its for charletons and the like.

We like the rugged individualism and the stand up for innovation and pioneering spirit.

We dont like sneaky or contrived corporate greed maskerading as anything else than what it is.

Now, that's the truth.

And I think good ole Karl missed that one.

Guns don't kill people, people [holding guns] kill people.

Same with cash.

In regards to filmmaking,

Cash can only make a film possible, it can never make it good... other factors make a film good.

The same with.. many other things... :).

I think we should be more scientific on this matter. Science enables stories, right. :bleh: ... let's base our story on facts.

Did threads or posts get erased? When? How?.. [and most of all] Why?

Rushed conclusions are always a bad thing.

Did the apple fall on Newton's head? Did this happen enough times to consider that it'll happen again, every time.

Is an Apple the only post-food that the RED really can digest, or can it survive with a mere Adobe for breakfast?

Questions, questions, observations, observations...

Exactly all thats being discussed is the distinction between making a buck and earning a buck.

Value is subjective. Value systems are about choice making prioreties of what comes first, second and last. I think Red puts its costumers first and is expanding at such a rapid rate in large measure because of that choice.

There are lessons to be learned. Its as simple as practicing what you preach. Thats the substance we want to be part of.

It has to be more than spin but if you are genuine things can be turned around at almost any stage. Its not too late to come clean. People respond to that. Becuase no one is perfect not even SCRATCH.

Dog Day.

So right you are Karapetkov, so right...except perhaps on the "mere Adobe" part. Adobe already has a more robust, more flexible, higher quality pipeline than Apple, but you don't get the shiny towers, increased prices and cool looking user interfaces that come with a Mac :-)

Yeah, good ole Marxie got a lot of things wrong, but let's hope he meant well :-) I, also, am a survivor of a communist regime, and can atestify to money not being the root of all evil.

Marxie, LOL. :)

Yeah,.. the road to hell is covered with good intentions.

I'm used to the Adobe workflow and the price\performance it offers doesn't make me SCRATCH my head either :).

Pfhah, lol.

Let's hope they make a good RED pipeline.

It's not an easy thing opening up the development of a camera to the entire community like this. Remember, most cameras pop out onto the market fully formed, you'll be lucky if even 10% of your suggestions make it to the next version (which you have to buy anyway).

Sometimes Red and us Mods have to make difficult choices. We do want an open a freethinking community, but Red is still a business and has a right to protect that business, I honestly don't have the inside info as to how or why they protect it in the way they do but I appreciate their right to do so. It's the price we pay for having them here day in and day out listening to us and making not only a great product but a better one every time you download an update.

If you really feel the need to hammer on points you know are going to arouse Red's ire, or create incendiary threads that directly challenge the quality of the product then I'm sure you will be welcomed with open arms over at the Canon and Sony forums... Oh wait, they don't have any.:bye2: :bye2:

I started this thread. I may as well end it... If someone wants to close it. I'm truly fine with that! I think Jarreds clarification of code of conducts was appropriate and good. As I mentioned in the initial thread, th SN is a challenge

The community is the challenge, the supporters, the buyers and the marketeers of this cam and forum. And as we become more (which we everyday do btw) some communication deals have to be done. The honeymoon is gone (where it was us vs them, in a sweet way )

I totally agree with Jim that the editing of posts is totally off limits. (if it really happened - and please: I'm NOT fishing for proof here...) It's much better to delete a post than to alter it IMHO.

I do NOT expect the mods to leave a trace (like "this post has been deleted because of its irrelevant or distracting content" signed by the relevant mod) but it would certainly be a preemtive move.

As I said in the initial post:
I don't particulary agree or disagree with views expressed here. I just have had the fortune to follow a totally insane and over-the-top dream come true and that dream is finally in my posession. To me, THAT is the most important point. 2 years ago? Truely 4k or not????? Is it only 3,5k 4:4:4.???? hahahahahaha!

Then there will be better and worse ways to take that pandoras box of opportunities into a working situation And I will hunt those opprtunities like the next one. It's not only Brook and Evin who are the 4k ninjas here. We all are, to some extent...

To me it is not as much the actions taken, but the way they're done (the way we non-moderators see the board) that triggered my initial post.
To publicly state that: "This post wast out of line (for whatever reason, doesn't really matter to me) and thus removed" is a much better way to do things, than just basically delete it and pretend it wasn't there, IMHO.

I am really appreciative of the work RED, Apple and Assimilate have done - even when it seems to me (from the outside!) that company policies are confusing that vision in the next step. Doesn't really matter (even to me!). I couldn't be more happy with any tool I could have, than with the one I currently have (well sorta... but that's just because my clients didn't pay me in time so I cannot have the lenses and perks I wanted... LOL!!!)

BUT
When I firsttime saw that ridiculous first red.com page with the racing cars and the different FOV cutouts, I knew that if they can make it I JUST WANT TO BE IN!

And two years later: guess what. I'm in! Happy dude here!
And with my RED finally resting behind me, I cannot say that that perspective has changed one bit (or 12 for that matter...)

What HAS changed is the volume (of interestees - on both sides) and seriousness of the point blanc business. Because it's always been obvious that Jim takes his business (and then I mean in a positive way: commercial business) very seriously. But as the people who are involved and (on their invidual rate) seriously invested into this venture - one way or the other - become more, we are - at least on a relative scale - quite heavily invested into that business to - and we want to have our say!!!! :)

Thus: A rule of conduct is good. On both sides of the "inside" and "outside" fence.

And those are my final words on the subject :)

(besides: Breathing and unresolving Lomo's Suck!)

Cheers!

Gunleik

thanks for keeping count.. but I think there really is a better use of your time out there man....

Seems like providing concrete specific examples is the best use of time I can think of when discussing a topic.
