  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Post Your Scarlet-X Rig

Brandon, I have the 504HD and I love it with the Scarlet. It is only rated for 16lbs, and I was worried about how it would play with the Scarlet, but it has worked well so far. Mind you...I haven't loaded the rig completely yet, it's been a slimmed down config so far (Zeiss ZFs, 15mm LW, FF, short rods, VF Vmount plate and battery). On my next shoot, it will also carry a ki pro mini, a M-one motor, Bartech rx, and a mattebox. We'll see how that goes, but should be fine.

My guess is that the 504HD would hold up well until you get into big PL glass, 19mm rails and components, as everything starts getting much heavier.

Hi. Can you tell me if you have problems with Zeiss ZFs and 15mm LW?
I talk about shortness of lenses, 15mm LW bracket protruding from Scarlet body and follow focus not having enough space eventually between Scarlet and a mattebox.
Thanks

I haven't had any issues with the ZF's and the spacing...but I put the ff gear on the front side of the ff gearbox (towards the matte box).

Hi guys - I love seeing everyone's rigs here. I'm in the process of ordering the scarlet in a couple of months time. I have two questions maybe someone can help me with some insight?

1 - Would you guys go for the basic package? I mean with the side handle and red volts? Or adapter plate and red bricks? Till now more inclined towards the Bricks.. I dont mind the extra pound or two. And the camera is still very small any way. What you lose is the efficiency of the side handle. To be honest I am more inclinded towards the ruggedness of the Red bricks and extra battery life but you might have other points in mind. The price is basically the same so it all boils down to pure preference.

2 - This is not rig related but does anyone have any idea what is the average delivery time at the moment. I mean from order to delivery?

Hey Kirk!

Yes I love the bricks, but I am not accustomed to HDSLR shooting. I will use it if it is on production, but I never went with the trend on that so I am used to bigger heavier cameras. I loved my redrock system when that 35mm look was the only way, and my AF100 kit was a Solid camera base system which added PL and about 3-4 pounds to the small camera. I would say go for touch screen and bricks if you are going for longevity with no power around to charge. Plus, you can choose more flavors of batteries because plates like View Factor, there is V-mount or anton bauer, then you can get any battery aside from Red (I have 3 Red bricks for my kit so far). I would say it all comes down to where and what your are shooting, but for me, I'll always have the v mount, just get bigger muscles and hold it =].

Since you are ordering in a couple months time, the quad battery option may be less backordered, but you are still carrying around tons of red volts rather than a couple bricks. If you need light weight just get small v mount batteries with less capacity, if it comes to that. My personal preferences for a camera, others could differ of course. You also may want to consider the price increase on both touch screen and side handle. I think it is in March, but don't quote me on that. I like using the touch for menus, for me the side handle doesn't interest me.

As for order time, this is one question that can't be answered. Though, when you are ready to order, have a look at the forum and see what order numbers are shipping or delivering and you could see how many there still to go by the list. At any rate, I would say order PL mount because there are a lot of canon orders to be filled. Good luck and happy shooting! I will post my rig hopefully this week with touch and brick as the Scarlet gets delivered.

Thanks Daniel very clear. I totally agree with you and I think it's the way I will go.

Thanks again

This is a before and after setup utilizing a 150mm NATO rail, Easy Top X, and quickback from WC. Still waiting for the LW 15mm bracket to attach rails, but I'm able to build out the camera in about 30 seconds.

The A-Box fits nicely to the top plate and the cold shoe mount on the top cheese handle is handy.

Two more things could be interesting too, the upcoming Dual-Battery-module and the REDVOLT XL-batteries.

some epic setups...

A quick question for you guys who received the scarlet-x.
What's the scarlet brain box dimentions ? Looks like a perfect cube. Is it 30x30x30cm ? 35cm? More ?

Epic dimensions are about 147h x 98w x 112d (without the lens mount) - that's in mm. There are diagrams here on RU somewhere. I believe Scarlet is very nearly identical.

Sorry Terry maybe my post wasn't clear. I'm talking about the box size, not the camera itself.

It's all but a perfect cube. Cardboard with some bits that splice into each other so slight differences.
26cm - 27cm approx - pending on the side.

SAMUS just recieved all of her parts (other than the Wooden Camera Top Handle (cheese))

So we put together a rig as we're shooting a little promo this week.

Everything works well although we had some longer (9") rods on the front and the RedRock Mattebox wouldn't get enough height to clear them, made it so we can't use the swing away while mounted. I've got some shorter rails that i'll try that should solve the problem but if we throw a longer lens on there it would be a bit of a time consuming swap.

Included is:
Brain with VF battery plate and Global Media 160w/h battery.
Wooden Camera Easy Riser and LWS 15mm rail mount.
Shoot35 Follow Focus
Nikon 17 - 35mm f2.8 lens (using cheap Ebay adapter... no play whatsoever)
Redrock micro Mattebox
Redrock handle (top)
Wooden Camera A-box
Red Magic Arm and 18" LCD cable
5" Touch LCD

(sorry for low quality cell phone snaps)

Which arm is that for the 5"?

I was thinking of mounting it on top, but putting it offset will be better for now. Makes it easier with the Top Handle, too.

Ah, that Nikon 17-35 — one of my favorite lenses

Here is my "Land Scarlet". Its 1/2 Polaroid Land Camera and 1/2 Red Scarlet...
