With so many different ways to wire things up, so many different bits of gear and modules to make it all work better, I am always very curious to see how other people setup their Ronin gimbals...with Red cameras or any others. I just got the MX in the mail yesterday and thought it would be helpful, to not only post some pics of my current setup, but also have other post pics of their Ronin rigs.

If your into the idea please state what type of Ronin you are posting pics of as well as any other useful info you want to share about your rig.

Here is my current Ronin MX setup with 24mm GDU lens. Pickup up some nice flexiable power and monitor cords from this guys ebay site: http://stores.ebay.com/Alvins-Cables (you can contact him from his site to make any length you want). I went with a 24in monitor cable and 18in power cable. The power cable that DJI sells is too think IMO. If you going to power the camera with the Base Expander then I suggest cutting off the black cable cap and folding the cable over so it does not hit the back of the gimbal. You can see how I did this in the top down photo. It works pretty well to keep balance of camera centered if you put the monitor mount on the left side camera to balance the power on the right. I had much better success going this route then trying mount the montor plug on front of camera. After a few more gigs I will probably pickup the jetpack because it will have less interference with the power cord, and will be easier to wire the RT motion latitude box/thumbwheel to (when it becomes available). Wish red would make a super light weight power only module for gimbal use.

Red cams now can have their own separate battery to power the cam using same adapter as ronin-m used, very nice. Just balanced my 15mm zeiss lens on the MX successfully today and will post pics later of that rig.

Where did you order your MX from? I was trying to wait for BH or Adorama to receive their stock, but I'm considering ordering direct from DJI. I would have assumed BH and Adorama would have received them sooner but they still haven't gotten any yet and they ordered months ago.

This could potentially be a useful resource but probably best if you write a brief description along with it. Like if the MX has its own power adapter to power the red or if it's using the standard power adaptor used also on the RoninM? The MX looks like it's designed as a closer sibling to the RoninM than the Ronin, is this correct? Is there advantages to the MX over the M for just standard gimble work or are the new features solely for drone, crane etc rigging in mind?
thanks
Kris

Looks great. This is next on my list of investments, but two questions have been looming around my head still !

Same as above, what are you using to power the camera? Also, how are you finding the motors / balancing on the MX in comparison to the original?

Looks great! What length and brand monitor cable do you have on there?

Looking good! Is the power more stable for Red Cameras on the MX system?

Assuming owners and operators of Movi and Ronin and other systems will be looking at this thread.
Can you do some funky 360 roll moves with these? Like looking straight ahead, can you roll the camera around the lens axis 360deg?

Not a gimbal user but I think this is possible to do with a Letus helix that does rotate / stabilize around the lens / optical path axis...

Haven't actually testing it out, but the Ronin MX is supposed to have a slip-ring to allow for cables to move freely on the top pan connection. So theoretically, 360 moves will work fine panning left-right 360 degrees.

Still waiting to get my hands on an MX. The only thing that's worrisome is the weight capacity just not being there for a full cinema setup. I'm already at 10 lbs with a stripped down MB, glass, brain and brick.

Daniel, the battery on the back of your Ronin MX is different from the one on top, I'm about to place an order for one and wanted to make sure I have all the right batteries. I know the one on top powers the gimbal and the rear powers camera and accessories, which battery do I need to purchase for the rear?

Back battery is a regular full-size Ronin battery.

Good Idea!

In answer to your questions-

1) Yes same power adapter from ronin-M fits on the back of the MX to provide power to red camera through 1 of two d-taps
2) Yes its almost the same size as Ronin-M, the handle bars are a bit wider, the arms going out from MX are exact same depth, but MX has more powerful motors from what I understand. Seems to be easier to balance longer bigger lenses, perhaps due in part to top mounting bar, but also because of the front mounted battery.
3) From what I understand, the advantages of using MX over M, MX has more powerful motors, handles G-forces better with different IMU (better for car mounting), cage keeps everything locked in more solid and perhaps might make use of longer lenses easier, two batteries now one in front helps better balance camera and can power red longer now with separate back battery, and of course is built to integrate with M600 chopper. Thats all I know of for now, but will report back if I find any other advantages over M.

Ordered directly from DJI when it was announced. Sometimes it takes awhile to ship from DJI, but once it does its pretty reliable.

Really good company that will make any length cables your heart desires. I went with a 24in monitor cable and 18in power cable. The power cable that DJI sells is too think IMO.
