  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

PLAYBACK

Fu(kin Killer update Guys! This is BAD-ASS!

1. PLAYBACK!

2. 2k @ 240fps filling 1080!

3. 3k!

4.
It's actual sensor flip on the shutter wipe direction, not just flipping the monitor.
- Brilliant!!! That is so smart. Loving it as a 3d Guy!

Prost,
Rich

I love the free updates from Red!!!! This is the email I got from ARRI this week:

"ALEXA Software Update Packet (SUP) 5.0 released

The release of SUP 5.0 marks another milestone in the continual process of expanding and refining the ALEXA toolset. This latest software update incorporates a range of improvements to the already versatile functionality of ARRI ALEXA cameras, but perhaps the most eagerly anticipated new feature is an option to purchase a High Speed mode that permits high speed shooting at up to 120 fps.

Following the Anamorphic Desqueeze license, High Speed mode is the second ALEXA software upgrade to be made available as a license. While SUP 5.0 - with its many other improvements - is a free update for ALEXA customers, the High Speed mode it enables is an entirely new feature and can only be activated through the purchase of a license key at the ALEXA License Shop. Each license key is coded to a particular camera and can be selectively enabled or disabled, allowing rental facilities control over which cameras are sent out with High Speed mode."

Cheers,
Rich

Deanan,

Here in NYC shooting and directing 3 nights on Spiderman 2nd unit and I would LOVE to upgrade to 2.02 but I think I will wait until the last night and upgrade the backup body and "play" around.

Huge thanks...

I owe you sushi,

For all that experienced the problem to update the red mote on mac as me. I got the tip here to turn all other network functions of before connecting to the red mote in th emac network prefs. That did the trick, the mote then connected in the upgrade app no problem. So no wifi no eternet connections will doing them mote... Then you have no problem.

Thanks for the tip, love reducer.net, love red and yes I will now go and make out with my epic that now plays back :)

RED playback for greenscreen comparison?

RED playback for greenscreen comparison?

Hi Guys,

playback is absolutely fantastic news.
I can't wait to check it out.
You made my day!

As the RED team is pushing boundaries and obviously climbed a milestone mountain with this one, here is a another nut I'd like to see cracked by them (and surely others want the same):

We often shoot green screen and very often web avatars. So poeple stand in front of the greenscreen and start different motions, but all sharing the exact same starting position.
While we have the chance to control this using a live video mixer (such as the BMD ATEM Studio), it would be amazing if it could be done inside the camera!

We discussed this long time ago for RED ONE, and many chimed in and found it a useful idea, so I bring it up again.

The idea is to capture a first take, which will be the default position. The you can select a single frame (in the playback) which is then kept in kind of a framestore (I hope the EPIC is in a way capable to do so). Then you can overlay that still frame to the live video (e.g. using the camera controls to control opacity) so that we can adjust to get the same starting position once again. It would be extremely helpful to do it in camera and without needing to tether anything to it.

Its not urgent and we take it when it comes. I just want you to know about that wish and encourage anyone else who likes the idea to chime in.

Cheers & thanks,
Axel

I’ve been banging on about that kind of work flow for more complex set ups too. If there was a way to sneak out of the camera a 4k frame or subset of a sequence let’s say 15 frames (without disturbing the camera), and then as you say do a live overlay and composite for registration then that would indeed be very useful for us too especially in and for s-3d capture/VFX/CG applications.

So as they say +1,

Cheers,

Eric

Have you tried RedUndead to recover the clips? I believe that it works with Epic footage. Also, did you format the SSDs after the firmware upgrade? Contact Red if you have not done so already.

Good luck,

Mike
