  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Picture of a Weapon

Yeah it comes with a sharpie, and you just get the art department to add whatever name you want.

I'm setting up a Kickstarter page to sell metallic foil tape bundled with gold paint sharpies. You know, for those who want to name theirs "Golden Rainbow Happy Time." For those who pre-order the $1800 "Solid Gold" package before NAB, I'm throwing in a gold Macbook for free.

Will you make a rose gold/ceramic edition for 18,000 USD to match the Apple Watch ?

I'm sure we can come up with something. ;)

Hehe, people laugh at the $17K gold Apple Watch ($10K gold watch housing + $7K band with solid gold buckle/clasp). And I kinda agree. But I'll be damned if anyone can tell me how it's any more absurd than paying $15~$20K for an equally mass-produced Gucci or Rolex with a fancy watch housing and band surrounding what amounts to their same common $250 watch internals. The fashion watch industry has always been stooopid, as far as I'm concerned.

There is a big and growing market for high end watches. I dabble in that area. Some of my individual Hublot watches cost more than my Dragon kit. There are people that will eat up the new 17K apple watch. Personally even though I appreciate costly watches I wouldn't touch the apple. Imagine how out of date the internals of your apple watch will be in 5 years? Real watches don't have this problem.

I did not wear a watch in the last 20 years maybe... may get a smart one this year to see what it can do... will not get the 17K version tho !
If you invest 17K in a watch, a mechanical one can last a life time or even be donated to your child or something... an Apple Watch 1.0 will be outdated quickly and probably will not benefit from an upgrade once a better/smaller/new wireless/battery/processor is available. Wish Apple could learn a bit from Jim's obsolescence obsolete upgrade programs :-)

This just popped up in my FB:

Could it be that it's related to the RED WEAPON?

And if so, do these two parts in green have someting to do with each other?

I'm wondering if that bottom circle isn't just a screw, but it would seem that the highlighted portion is somehow a Red version of Cinetape...something that would be AWESOME!! Seriously, I had looked at a Cinetape alternative, and it was from RedRock, and was $1k, but not nearly as functional as the Cinetape, which was $6k for the main unit, but $9k with the wireless transmitter...something as out of reach right now...

I hope everyone is upgrading that wants to...was finally able to talk to my bomb rep (who as always, was VERY helpful- thanks Kev!)...hopefully I get things worked out and can join you guys...either way, I'm thankful for the second chance to upgrade before NAB- and I'm excited to see what the final details are for the Weapon.

Dan - I wouldn't call Dragon outdated. By all accounts, Weapon will have the same sensor - just possibly more accelerated. Dragon is still very much a viable/current/supported camera. And you are already first in line for an upgrade - you HAVE a Dragon! It's all the poor folk with an MX that need to jump to where YOU are at...that need to be worried. You will ALWAYS be eligible for Weapon, possibly for a long time. Dragon upgrades have been going on for 2 years. You could shoot with your Dragon into 2016/17 most likely, and have lots of time to jump into Weapon.

I would say you are fine.

It's the folk with MX that need to act fast...or be left behind. But you? You're ok!

The people with the biggest hit are those who bought a Scarlet MX LATE (as in end of 2013 or in 2014) who suddenly have to make TWO or THREE upgrades almost at once (to Epic MX...and then Dragon...and then Weapon?). Likewise Scarlet MX owners considering jumping to Scarlet Dragon now may be in a tight bind - as presumably they bought a Scarlet because they didn't have the funds for an Epic MX...but now need to come up with those kind of funds anyway...

So...I would consider you a lucky/fortunate/in good position RED consumer! No need to panic/worry at all!!

HMMM… OK, but I have tons of work at high pay shooting with Epic MX, my reel gets better all the time as does my client list, so none of this worries me at all actually. Even with just a Red One M, a person can make great images and make a living - it doesn't matter what other cameras are out there unless your current camera is letting you down and screwing up your work. Mine are not.
