  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

For super compact setups, where you may not even need the base IO, just the battery module, you can skip the IO module completely.

Been wanting to ask if that was an option, was not sure you would share at this time. This is wonderful news, thank you for sharing. :)

Would have been nice to have pins on the bottom of the new 7" LCD and pins on the top of the brain so we could avoid using a cable. Of course this could make top plates a little trickier.

Also happy to hear there will still be a side handle option. I never take mine off.

Should we expect any change in image quality with the body upgrade? (ignoring new OLPF options) Understand if you won't share at this time.

Will everyone get a one time discount on new MINI-MAGs based on 1.8" MAGs they have purchased in the past or only those that have not moved to MINI-MAG yet? I already have the MINIs but would love to buy some more at a one time discount for previous 1.8" mags I purchased. Understand if it only applies to those who have not moved to MINI yet. I have been happy with the MINI, but they are so small that I fear losing them. :) They do seem to run hotter to the touch. Since I am shooting doc interviews, I also look forward to larger capacity in the future.

You might not know yet, but will you keep up the tradition of the previous NABs where you announce the night before? This way we can log in and place our orders as fast as possible. Meaning we can mull over what we want hours before the show floor opens and then rush to get our orders in. :) Ever second counts or at least has in the past when it comes to getting a place in line.

Is there a DC in on the new XL module so we can power off of AC without installing the IO module? Thinking of the upgrade FW scenario.

... so we could avoid using a cable. ...

I'm guessing this just might be an option...

I have been driving around with W for the last 2 nights all night long in Downtown Los Angeles testing random new things. I was having so much fun I kept telling myself " ok just one more shot " over and over and over again until the sun came up.

The good old "prototype camera hidden under a cardboard box with a lens sticking through a hole" worked like a charm.... managed to completely avoid the cops.

Touchscreen control from the dash.

Probably need to sleep before I say too much :)

Will the Weapon upgrade make the grilled cheese sandwiches from the craft truck taste better?
Can we get a one time deal to upgrade the attitude of the package truck driver?
I don't like the weather outlook in Toronto tomorrow - Jared can you fix this for me?

To make things easier, we are working out a special deal for those that have REDMAGS already and need to switch to MINIMAGS. It is not a trade-in thing, but more of a one time discount when you jump over to make things a little less painful... based on the number of the big cards you have. So if you have 6 big cards, you can buy up to 6 minimags at a reduced price, only at the time you switch over. Fair?

Very generous...thanks very much Jarred!

If you mean product information rather than pricing then I really hope there is a proper press release that gives customers more than a few short hours to digest the product info before feeling compelled to order (or end up at the back of what will likely be a very long que).

Awesome. Jarred seems like you guys have dialed in everything. Love to see what you've done with the side module, we been using the camera a lot with the tigger flags for video/photo capture and loving it. With the thinner body and loss of weight I would love it to see the weapon totally replace our dslr

I asked this way earlier, but some of it has been answered. I know now that the side handle won't work and some other stuff, but I'm hoping the touch screens still do? I want to make sure because I was planning on purchasing the 7 inch within the next week.

I mean both. I am pretty sure around midnight two years ago Jarred started posts that included both product details and pricing. I got to the booth before the show floor opened and stood at the terminal for 1.5 hours waiting for the store to be updated. It paid off in that I sent my EPIC-M for Dragon upgrade in December of 2013 so I was at the front of the very long line.

If the EPIC-M to Carbon Weapon is around 20k or less, I will make that move. I would like a lighter camera and I would like to get it as soon as possible. I was tempted to go Carbon during the Dragon upgrade, but I decided not to. Glad I am getting another chance to go Carbon and since it will do more per Jarred's post, it seems like the best route. Of course I hope everyone else, as Elsie points out, waits to see others with the Weapon before they order. This way I can get mine sooner. :) Purely being selfish of course.

Jarred how much of the existing module pin interface cane we expect to remain?

Running 10 Dragons here in London that are never on the shelf mainly because we've gone a combination of 3rd party and custom made bits to satisfy crew (see pics). I fully expect by the time we swap them out for Weapon we can expect a huge amount of this to be redundant (as per Red One - Epic in the past). It would be good to know how much we can still use though as well as knowing if there is the equivalent of:

1. Multiple HDSDI outputs in easy to reach places
2. Multiple 2 pin / 3pin and D tap power outs (cover all bases including European ones)
3. 24V up convert for LCS
4. Built in battery hot swap
5. Full size easy to reach turnover / Timecode / Genlock
6. 4pin XLR block battery in
7. A focus hook!

From experience these are a must on high end commercial / drama / film work. We strip them down for Movi / specific jobs but 90% of all jobs we do they stay in this config.

I had ordered Meizlers so really hoping you have nailed it this time.....

Wondering if my 7" touch screen I just bought..plus my Bomb OLED EVF will be working on the weapon. This my BIG question. I can handle the cost of new media, etc. but buying these new peripherals will be a stretch for me. Can we get a definative answer on this? anyone?

That is one thing we are carrying forward ( because we can ) ... There will be an adapter to make current LEMO monitoring/touchscreen options work with Weapon.

I really hope we won't need the adapter module anymore, that one did only add weight and bulk to the cam and brought nothing in return...

Not true! I had one die (seriously, it's just a pass through and even though I didn't use it much, it died!) and so recently on a shoot I opened it up, took out all the guts, and filled it full of BB's for back weight while using my Epic on a movi. Worked great.

Hi Jarred,

Any chance you might include an easy REC trigger for the camera. Like the RED ONE used to have?

Ohhhhh The dreaded Shotgun Module... From your Minister of Nomenclature.

So, Weapon is moving away from LEMO... to something less costly but equally reliable, I presume?

I'm thinking this whole new brain is like a lego block. They've always been modular, starting with the R1...but what we'd be getting with this new brain is numerous modules that we can attach on various parts of the body, not just the back.
