  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Phil Holland's PhilmColor Creative 3D Luts for IPP2

Thanks Phil. I ll get the philColor this weekend and continue testing. When you mention “what your target output is” what do you mean exactly? It gets confusing sometimes. My workflow is apple displays, premiere pro, then davinci after adjusting ipp2 settings in REDCINE X which you are helping me now understand, then ProRes 4444 output export

I should have said Output Color Space, i.e. BT.1886/Rec.709 for example.

Phil... Just purchased you LUTS... having a lot of fun... amazing....

Question: How can we see the thumbnail preview in REDCINE X like in the first pic Jarred posted on this thread?

Anyway, love them so far and just tried a few... got a lot more to go... then on camera.... Thanks!

Thanks Alain.

Jarred Photoshopped a picture from the manual, but I think thumbnails would be a nice thing to have :)

Folder support even more so.

LOL.... Nice! yeah that ll be great when thumbnails come up... :)

Just purchased. Can't wait to play with these. What an absolute steal. Phil, you're a gentleman and a scholar. But most of all, you're the god damn pioneer of awesomeness. Many thanks to you good sir again for all your contributions to RED users.

Here are the settings and the colors at medium both contrast and highlights. No LUT no curve.. Plain with IPP2 pipeline

www.alainmaiki.com/redfootage

NOTE: Now, If I set up the preference with IPP2 Monitoring setup: Color Space: Rec2020 and Gamma: 1886 the colors look more correct. I am using my new MacBook Pro 2017 with this testing. Rec2020 seems for color accurate than Rec709 in the IPP2 Monitoring but I aint no expert on this... I might be doing something wrong.

Thanks Phil.

If you set the monitoring to rec709, redcine expects you to have a monitor with rec709 color space. If your monitor has a wider color gamut, the image will look too saturated. I think the new Macbook Pro uses p3 color space as default, so you could change the color space in the OS system settings to rec709 or srgb.

As if R3D footage wasn't easy enough to work with...Thanks Phil.

It's insane how awesome is to have PhilLUTS on camera controlled with the foolcrontrol! WOW! Amazing... I am having fun with my new camera and Phil Color LUTS.... :)

Hey Phil, thanks for these. They look great! Huge work went in here, glad to support it!

Was wondering what the word is on Tetrahedral 3D LUT Interpolation in Premiere? Have they updated software to handle this process yet?

If not is the workflow to edit in Premiere, then export a XML to REDCINE-X to master it out with the correct colour science secret sauce?

What are the major issues with just using Lumetri Color for now?

Thanks again! Simon.

It's coming for sure Simon. I imagine once the RED SDK is finished up it should be in there, but I'll ping again this week. It's been a heartbeat since I've nagged Adobe about something :)

Since at the moment it's trilinear interpolation there's potential for color banding with some of my LUTs (not all, just the more complicated stuff). Software that supports Tetrahedral and Tricubic interpolation do not have these issues.

You can certainly do the XML route via REDCINE-X Pro, I've certainly been doing that. You can also, if you are on that path able to use the Apply 3D LUT Effect in After Effects, so think Dynamic Link if you want to explore that workflow. This all gets solved likely within the next 30-60 days. So soon you should be able to party in Premiere as you would in any other grading app that supports the precision of better interpolation.

Thanks Phil you true legend! I thought my footage was brilliant before, but I was wrong! The colour! Such wow colour.

I did notice some of that banding, will Dynamic Link for sure to sort that out,

Sorry! I do recall you saying somewhere here to do that now. Adobe are pretty brill as well for listening to users.

Thanks for your time Phil, looking forward to what comes of the IMAX shootout, so epic man!

Hi Phil

What would you say is a good philmcolor lut for punching up greens and blues of natural environments, like farms etc.

I`m liking your base SANDPIPER.

If there is any others similar to sandpiper either in the pack or coming in your update?

Your luts are very helpful.

Thanks

Thank you Donald. Sandpiper is a good one :) Give baseStocks: Rosella, Skua, or Thrush a go. I've certainly got some more intense looks incoming based on user requests.

The combination of Philm Como LUTs and Davinci LUT Gallery from Color Central is amazing workflow!

Happy Weekend...

Alain,

I see you are using the "Layer Mixer" to composite nodes. I've found that sometimes I get a better composites with the "parallel mixer" and sometimes with the" Layer mixer". However, my preference is the "parallel mixer". Also, have you tried using any of the "composite modes" under the "layer mixer"?

No Rand. I haven't tried... I use both Parallel and Layer but I get desired results with either... Now I enjoy more Davinci because Ipp2 and Philm can be quite soft on the highlights touch and so very useful for those tiny minor adjustments... Philm also has many soft LUT color tweaks and both Philm Lut + Davinci tools is a great combination together with LUT Gallery! :)

Enjoying the adjusted new workflow I am teaching myself with the new stuff...

Alain,

The IPP2 workflow along with Philmcolor is a winning combination ! :)

Is there any way to try some of my own shots? Like sending them over or so? so far almost all other LUT's aren't working that well on our footage, i think because of the older leica lenses (which have a great warm look)
Would be silly to spend 325 bucks just to try. Also, i cant find anything about the ''Graeme's Transform LUTs'' on the red site. is it some kind of converter? I am a resolve user, I dont really want to use RCX in my workflow, if thats possible.
