  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

PCHOOD CINEMATICS

Is it 100% parfocal from 24-70 while zooming? I do not think so.
Well the housing pretty much just takes away the telescoping while zooming. that and adds gears to the focus and zoom.

It is not really a "rehouse".
It is pieces of plastic screwed to the stills lens which is not designed for cinema work in first place.
I am sorry but that is not The right way of making things properly. I really need full frame zoom which works like Zeiss 28-80. For under $10,000.

Wrong again, its not plastic. It's aluminum. It's just a aluminum housing to give your current canon zoom gears for the focus and zoom and fixes the telescoping issue making the lens usable with the matte box. That's pretty much it. take it for what it is.

Wrong again?
Cant zoom because it is not parfocal.
does it have long throw focus, does it have iris ring,
Which version of Canon is it? Version 2 looses 1/2 f-stop when you zoom in.

So ok you can use it instead of 3 photo still primes but you can not use it as a Zoom Lens.

you realize your complaining about a issue that is canon based. Not PChood based. It's a metal housing that gives you focus and zoom rings, and stops the telescoping issues for the lens. That's it. If you don't like it, tough titties... You want a lens that is par focal, then buy one. Simple as that.

not a issue for me use to it now and they sale gizmo for reverse focusing forgot ho but its available first whats the point of a non parfocal zoom if you can't zoom while shoothing? might be better using prime just my opinion the housing looks nice for using a matte box

Got my 24-70 lens housing. Feels great, too bad camera is out but will be testing on another epic tomorrow. Only downside is that they gave me the metric standard. Should be getting imperial focus ring replacement soon.

Well it defiantly makes your 24-70 feel like a man. The outer lens diameter is now 114mm standard, which is perfect for my Obox bellow. The gears feel as smooth to pull as you can get on a canon still lens. You will not get hard stops with the lens housing. You can make hard stops on the lens if you want by modifying the actual lens, its possible by taking the rubber off and do some machining to the focus ring. But seeing how the camera recalibrate the lens every time you mount it. Better hold off on that. Weight, well its ALL METAL. So there's a good amount of weight added to the lens. I measured the new weight around 4lbs. Telescoping. it's gone. There's a new optical glass in front of the housing to prevent you from "crushing" your fingers or something. Does not affect sharpness, does affect flares. You can watch it below. Lens vignetting, You only see it on the 5D from 24 until 50mm when it comes to lens vignetting. on the epic, no vignetting so your good to go. If you are only looking to make your 24-70 work on your EPIC or Scarlet and you no longer want to deal with the telescoping and want to have real gears on the focus and zoom. Well its a no brainer. So thats my quick review of the housing. I plan on keeping it on the lens cause it fits my needs for camera.

Oh, yea I also did a par focal test with my 24-70mm does it stay in focus wide open when I zoom in and out? I guess your have to watch it below.

Thank you Jon
Now i want it.

Good Luck to You.

Lens has got heavy breathing and i can see it is not par focal.
Also focus will change during zoom in/out between point A and Z.
Like i said, all the best..

Aloha. I reached out the PCHOOD folks last week. Something of interest.

They are indeed working on putting the Nikon 24-70 in a housing WITH a PL mount. Now if they can only change that pesky crazy backwards focus movement.

red rock micro makes a flipable gearbox follow focus so is arri the nikon 24-70 is superior to any other 24- or 28-70 out there and its parfocal the only other one that is up there with the nikon is the angenieux 28-70 f 2.6 really nice and no telescoping lens but not weather proof moisture and dust get in that lens quick good for studio use
environment

It looks like i am wrong regarding these zooms.
I have just received Email from Company:

Hi Jiri, I am matt, the Tech support at Cinematics. Here is a list of partfocal Canon zoom lenses you can get for your 1Dc:

16-35 f2.8
24-70 f2.8
