  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

at the Airport w/ an Epic and a Porsche

Nice footage.
Hey Preston, which RC model are you using.

I spent most of my weekend researching RC devices, before coming to the realisation that you need more than just a passing knowledge of these things to get great results like yours. I doff my cap:)

Sweet stuff!

On a side note, you should change the youtube embed code so it displays in HD if you're gonna embed it that large on the page. Right now it defaults to 480p...at least on my browser.

I noticed that too. 480p in a frame that size doesn't do it justice. It will make people think it was shot on a GoPro...

looks pretty cool!
the carrera 4s and the epic, here we go, another nice couple...
which lens did you use and what was the total weight of
your setup? how did you power the epic?
thanks.
post more if you have please, I love these little RC "flies"...;-)

..and did you do any stabilisation in post pro?

An RC Helicopter flying an Epic. I love it! Great looking footage!

Nice. Takes some guts to fly a 5D with $1K of glass, but to fly an EPIC setup, whew. I salute you sir! That is one expensive aerial package.

Helicopter stable enough, or did you stabilize in post? I imagine the slow frame rates help with keeping it smooth.

Wow! Great stuff!!

How much $$ do you have invested in that RC package, besides the Epic stuff obviously?

Would love to see some more.. (no protection for your lens?)

Thanks Justin. Sometimes we use a polarizer but in the words of Austin Powers, "I, too, like to live dangerously" ;-)

I had a blast working with Snaproll on this project. These guys are IT for aerials with the EPIC, and they're awesome to hang with!

BTW, only one of the aerial shots was done in HDRx. We only had a very short amount of time to shoot this, but we did a variety of different options including some 300 fps shots, 5k 96 fps, and a little HDRx.

Thanks Jeffrey! We appreciate your help and enjoy hanging out with you too. If you have the chance, could you post a few frame grabs for the guys here?

great stuff!

I grew up around helicopters as my dad runs a helicopter plant..always amazes me what you guys can do with those little guys

Thanks Chad. We love flying the full size ones too. Hit us up so we can come out to the plant and play around!

Thanks Gian. We've experimented with many different platforms. It depends on the package we fly (lens, remote focus/iris/zoom controls, etc) to which platform we use on any given job. Each rig is a variety of models including custom components.

Liam, thank you kind sir. And we had it default at 720p but it wouldn't play on the mobile devices we used so we left it at 480.

Thanks Christian. I believe it was a Zeiss prime but I honestly don't remember at the moment. As you can imagine, we're constantly trying out different lenses. The rig you see in the video is our medium-duty rig capable of about 18 pounds, different from our larger rig we use for the RED ONE and Phantom. The batteries are lightweight custom lithium polymer that power the EPIC longer. We've finely tuned our 3-axis gryo stabilized mount to minimize the need of post stabilization but some flight conditions require it.

Thanks Ryan. The risk is worth it every time we see the footage :)

Nice guys! Footage looks great, Full Frame did a great edit too! Keep it up!

Thanks dude!

Really like the vid Preston. Hope all is well with you guys.

Thanks dude! A lot has happened since the inaugural flight out in the Nevada desert back in April. Thanks again for helping us with the world's first successful flight of the EPIC
