and also this post from september if you missed it...

very interesting and promising ! Would love to know if this is just a hack / reverse engineering using REDmote wired/wireless protocols or something officially approved by RED... anyway looks like we are not too far from a 3RD party REDmote PRO maybe for focusing !!!

Curt, will our old R1 origo's work for run/stop on epic ? I have a brand new one in the bag that i just found and not sure if i can connect it....in fact not even looked at the pins to see if those will match up....but is this possilbe to use out of the box or by changing lemo connections? or just not an option at all?

I believe in Curt, and Viewfactor.

Sometimes in life horrible things happen and people have to take care of them in the best way they can at any time.

Hopefully Rory, if you were one of the people who put a deposit down on the follow focus, you got your money back, or whatever it was you wanted.

Curt is not a big corporation. I would look at that past scenario like a pre-kick starter thing that didn't exactly go swimmingly.

I wouldn't classify VF with Carrion for instance (anyone remember that?)

I propose looking forward to whatever the future holds and if there needs to be a forum grilling, maybe in OFfTopic or something ? I dunno - just saying.

love to all forum friends,

dan

At 425 wouldn't it make more sense to get a second redmote? I know used remotes have sold in the 400-450 range. You'd get an additional start stop and a backup redmote in case of failure? What does the origo offer that the redmote doesn't other than small form factor and long battery life? Greater range? Or is that limited by the camera wifi antenna?

The price that we are actually going to be selling these for is actually closer to $400. The Origo is much smaller and more ergonomic for use on handheld rigs & Steadicams - the redmote can certainly be used but its a little tricky to operate with one thumb while holding the grip of a camera rig. Battery life is another big thing.... the Origo should last about a week on one battery and the battery is replaceable. Lastly, we have an optical sensor for controlling the focus and aperture - this allows you to control the lens much more accurately during recording so your focus pulls can look much smoother.

+1 for the last post. Does the wireless Origo have greater range than the Redmote? I have the upgraded antanae and the range of the Redmote is still brutal.
We are doing range testing this week and I assure you the range will be pretty impressive. We'll have more info on the blog.

Quick question Curt. I was impressed by the video demo. Any plans on creating a "knob" to interface here with focus mode?
