Great shot Brad. Would, love to know the particulars: f-stop, shutter, iso etc.. if you can. Getting the sun to not blow everything out is tricky. You definitely captured all the best parts of that scene.

I wouldn't be so concerned with Photoshop. You're showing good promise with your pictures. Concentrate on the fundamentals. Composition. Exposure. Colour. Tell a story with your pictures.

I cannot recommend the following book highly enough for inspiration:

Photoshop is an excellent tool but practicing the fundamentals over and over again like a martial artist with his hombu will make you a far superior photographer.

At the end of the day garbage in-garbage out. Try to use photoshop sparingly. Stick to ACR and some light dodging and burning. Treat it like you would a dark room.

And keep making pictures. Keep asking questions. keep sharing your insights.

HERE's some more inspiration. And HERE's a good (but cranky) source of knowledge that'll help you get started out.

If you ever find that source too cranky you can always check out this http://blog.bahneman.com/content/ken-rockwell-facts?story=Ken_Rockwell_Facts

Two of my favorites:

'Ken Rockwell doesn't adjust his DOF, he changes space-time.'

'Ken Rockwell doesn't color correct. He adjusts your world to match his.'

Ha! That was great. Rockwell is an idiot with too many sycophants, and gets paid too much money further pumping his abrasive nature and mediocre photography. Treat Rockwell like Wikipedia. Always back up what he says with another source. Just my tuppeny!

I know... I just don't get the Rockwell thing. Also the TWIP ( this week in photography podcast).. very lame. I do however like Luminous landscape, even thought there is a bit of arrogance there from time to time. I used to go to pdn's forums a lot but stopped a few years ago as it became bragish.

I really appreciate this thanks

No problem Chris. The more we share/debate our knowledge and sources the better we all get :)

That's the post of the day for me, thanks! Freaking hilarious...

"On Ken Rockwell's desktop, the Trash Icon is really a link to National Geographic Magazine "

" Before Nikon or Canon releases a camera they go to Ken and they ask him to test them, the best cameras get a Nikon sticker and the less good get a Canon sticker

Once Ken tested a camera, he said I cant even put Canon on this one, thats how Pentax was born "

Thank you so much, Jon. I really do love this photo.

Shot with Canon 7D, with a Tamron 17-50 f 2.8 lens (it's a great lens for the price).

1/400 sec at f 4.5
ISO 100
17mm focal length.

I warmed it up a little and added a bit of saturation and contrast in Adobe Lightroom.

Very nice shot Brad. And yours too Christopher, interesting grade, painting-like.

"Sure, Ken Rockwell deletes a bad photo or two. Other people call these Pulitzers."
:emote_popcorn:

Some recent shots, taken with my Canon 7D and EF 50mm f/1.2L prime lens.

I really love the crazy flares and ethereal reflected light of this shot (100% in camera, nothing added in post):

Hey Jarred et al, while I appreciate the humour in silently modifying 7-D to Betacam, it's kind of a silly, shortsighted thing to do when someone is validly trying to tell others what camera they used for something. In the long term it only confuses and annoys people, like in the post above where I'm listing my photography equipment. I get the whole Red sandbox/playground thing, but don't take the low road and provide ammunition for the haters.

Thanks :)

Paul
