Epic sunset, Paul. We missed a similar moonrise shot last night. Needed MX + 600mm+ to really nail it in motion.

Here's one from last night shooting motion timelapse in Palm Springs:

I saw that moon you were talking about in my rear view on my way back from AZ. It was pretty amazing.

Yeah it was a crazy bright orange when it crested the mountains at the juncture of the 62 and the 177. I had a 200mm on my 5D. That's when I realized I needed something more like 600mm+ to really see the moon at all. Even on a Red, 600mm will still be pushing the bare minimum. Maybe 600mm with 1.4x or 2x is more like it!

Here's a crummy iPhone pic of the back of my 5D2's LCD (you can see the actual moon in the distance) with the x10 zoom thingy on:

Lovin' my Canon EF50mm f/1.2L USM lens wide open! Both images shot on my Canon 7D.

Cheers,

Wow, Paul! This shot is beautiful, and I'm not just talking about the subject matter. Such amazing color and lighting I love it. I love the sunset on the next page too. You wouldn't happen to have a photographer exchange program would you?

The Canon 150-600 w/ 2X extender is a great lens for shooting the moon. For stills of the moon, I like my Nikon D2XS with the Nikkor 400 & a 2X.

That moon was crazy orange here the other night too.

My daughter.

My daughter is one of my favorite subjects. And one of the most difficult to work with, too! Just grabbed this one while I was running backward and she was chasing me, snapped off a few shooting from the hip.

Haha! Thanks for the kind feedback. That shot of Mau-chan was taken in Ginza which is lit up with an amazing number of neon signs of all colours!

Cheers,

Paul

Something in spare time...

I really like this, it's fantastic.

...and something before sleep.

Hey guys, here's some character portraits from the Horror of the Dolls, a feature I was Unit Photographer on as well as 2nd Unit Director, DIT and did Visual Effects on. I opened a thread in the Shot on RED forum HERE

If you recognise the actor in the first portrait that's Joerg Stadler. He was "Steamboat Willie" in Saving Private Ryan as well as various roles in Spy Games, Ever After and Hannibal Rising.

Enjoy :)

Vincent, love the pictures. I am in Japan now so it was a timely post for me.
