  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

OFFHOLLYWOOD OMOD Modules for RED WEAPON

can you put your modules btwn the brain and a vlock expander?
or do you really need the base expander?

No.

The DSMC2™ system - by design - allows only one "I/O expander module" to be connected to any DSMC2™ brain at one time. This can be combined with one "DSMC2 battery module".

So, you can not combine an OMOD (or any other 3rd party module) with a RED I/O module. OMOD's do share RED's DSMC2™ battery module interface - so you can put an OMOD on a DSMC2 brain and then put a RED DSMC2™ battery module on the back of the OMOD.

The one thing that we do that is different is that we do have a "module on a module" interface that adds a VIDEO output. So, you can put a wireless video transmitter from us (OMOD TX) on the back of an OMOD - and then - add ANY DSMC2™ battery module onto the back - from RED, ET, Wooden Camera, OFFHOLLYWOOD or any other 3rd party RED approved DSMC2™ battery module.

But you can NOT combine any I/O expander module with another I/O expander module.

Yes. OMODs ship first.

Battery Plates don't have ship dates or prices yet as I'm just pushing to have working prototypes that make me happy for NAB. Just FYI, we are NOT doing any simple, inexpensive battery plates. Wooden Camera is your best option for that. We are doing internal, rechargeable 200W hot-swap modules in V-Mount and gold mount - and a 24V gold mount version as well. Battery data to your phone with alerts via VoltBridge, etc. But again, I'm not taking orders or promising dates until I'm holding a working unit I am happy with. This stuff is NOT easy.

But does your V lock have a 10 Tb thunderbolt raid built in ?

Mark,

Will this design philosophy carry into Super Slot integration?
Or will that be a new OMOD module when the time is right...

V-Lock is for pussies. Step up to the gold mount Björn ... life is short.

Hahahahahaha
Reason I switched to V-lock (and staying - lol) because most of the RED accessoires = V-lock.

It´s past midnight here now, so it´s already Friday in europe... Can you not give us some sneak peaks before your site goes public.

Over here Goldmount is as much of a standard as 23.97fps, yards and feet, NTSC, 60hz and playing football with your hands :)

Well ... while I do love 23.976 ... I do not really care for yards, feet, NTSC, 60hz and football with hands (or heads smashing).

But ... FYI ... your frame rate does suck. It's 1.024 fps too fast. WTF were you guys thinking.

HA HA... Yeah... But Pussies have the best Toys... ;)

Seriously,

Issue here is that I did tried and go Gold Mount several times, but most of my accessories where only powered via V-Lock battery plates...

Speaking of which, d you know if the DS1 comes also in Gold Mount or only V-Lock battery power option?

Digital Sputnik DS1 can be purchased with either V-Lock or Gold Mount. I have been extensively testing DS - and they are truly a game changer in lighting. The color science of these lights are unmatched by any LED fixture. We are about to do a big East Coast push with rentals on the Digital Sputnik lighting systems.

Hello Mark,

I see double shadow (from 2 spots) wich don't match in their tint (green/pink) in the Digital Sputnik lighting systems skateboard video. Are they not well set? This video doesn't speak for a good CRI.
Are you really convinced by them color wise?
Thanks

Pat

Pat - that Brain Farm video used a mix of daylight only prototypes (never manufactured) mixed with RGB units. That is what you are seeing.

With respect to CRI - CRI was created in 1948 - based on the Tungsten spectrum. So when you can measure colors ABOVE the Tungsten spectrum (that digital cinema cameras CAN see) you actually get more negative CRI rating.

CRI is the WRONG measurement for the color of light when using digital cinema cameras.

You want to use Color Quality Scale aka CQS.

Oh great!

We'll be getting some of this for sure!

V-lock vs. Gold Mount is not even a contest. Drop that V shit.

I've never heard a good argument for why one is better than other. I've used vlocks for years and they are great, however if I are runing with Steadicam in low mode then i must use Bangos (lol)… It seems that not all v-mount plates are created equal since 3rd parties that try and copy the Vlock plates and get it wrong it's even worse (lol).

Now lets get back to OMOD Modules.
standing and waiting....

personal take on the V mount vs. AB debate :

V mount can be acidentlally ejected too easily. Bump the side button and the battery can literally "bail out" from the connector.

V mount has weaker power mating pins. Power into the camera is of course essential to basic function. If you can't trust your power connection, you're stranded in a sea of contempt and suffering.

Gold mount really Locks into place, it's never failed me once ever.

I have been using Anton Bauer Gold Mounts for years and have never had one issue.

is the OMOD store still going live today or tomorrow? Im about to buy some stuff but was going to wait if the OMOD is about to go live

And, will the OMOD battery plate you are making be shipping after OMOD's? Thinking about getting the ET plate if this is the case as a stop gap. Still looking forward to your hot swap (powered) battery plate

edit: just saw your reply to this question earlier....

had high hopes for the OMOD modules. I recall them being shown almost a year ago at NAB. Very nervous about this product performing flawlessly as they are not even for sale yet almost a year later and Weapon is being rolled out in masses. The initial press release said available June/July 2015. It does not inspire confidence but I've been out of the loop news wise with weapon and accessories until now so maybe I missed something.. Mark, do you have any comment about the OMODs at this time? Do you have working production units to show/demo?
