  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

OFFHOLLYWOOD OMOD Modules for RED WEAPON

I was understanding it to mean converting 12v battery to 24v accessory power.

OMOD XLR will not ship in Feb.

Just saw this now. Ouch.

Is it just the XLR OMOD that's been delayed past the Feb ship date, or the other units as well? Either way, I understand perfection takes time Mark. Keep at it. :)

Looks like I'll have to think of a temporary solution until they ship, otherwise I'll have a brain sitting here for two months with no way of turning it on. lol

While I'm at it, regarding the OMOD battery plate, will it be able to attach directly to the brain, or will it have to be used with an expander (be it OMOD or Red)? I love the idea of being able to omit the OMOD XLR unit and mount the battery plate directly on the back for jib work. Thanks!

Yes. Direct to brain as well - or any other DSMC2 module from RED or anyone else.

Awesome. One more question (sorry!). Any chance of DC input on the battery plate?

Question: Every OMOD has DC on the module. Base Expander has DC input. Why would you want DC input on the Battery Module? Is that just so you could run the camera with no module except the battery module?

Exactly! I was actually just reading the ET battery plate thread, and I saw people mentioning that they were holding out for a version that had d-tap plus DC. That got me thinking that maybe the OMOD plate will be that ultra compact solution.

Personally, I can't afford an array of different modules. So im planning purely OMOD XLR + Battery plate. Since I won't have a base expander, having DC on the battery plate would allow me to have two different setups, a larger with audio, and a second barebones version for jib work or squeezing the camera into tight spots (neither of which would benefit from having a sizable battery on the back).

DC isn't a huge deal. It would just be a nice addition if you're still in the design stages. :)

Wont you need some sort of SDI output for jib work? You wouldn't have that with the brain and the battery plate only...

I knew someone would ask that. :)

I actually do a lot of work on smaller jibs, where I operate it from the camera end (I'd just use the touch screen).

I realize that I may seem out in left field by wanting DC on the battery plate, but based on that other thread, it seems clear that I'm not alone. :)

Just wondering about a price on the battery modules? Any chance of a package. Say XLR + V-Lock plate? Keen to factor in what I need to outlay now...

I might have asked this elsewhere;

Hey Mark,

Any chance you could squeeze a couple of 3.5mm audio jacks on the standard (non XLR) OMODz?
I don't think I need the best pre-amps or physical knobs, I just want to be able to get useable guide track written onto my Weapon R3D's (or ProRes). It's not a matter of expense, but about the added length required to squeeze full size XLR's on there and the fact that I don't need the best audio, just something useable (onboard scratch mic's aren't that good, add in the noise of Canon AF motors and/or RT Motion motors so close to the mic's and it might be a problem). Not a deal breaker if you can't, especially with the built in Ambient TC, but it would certainly be icing on the cake.

Pretty please, with a cherry on top.

Are there prices for these yet? Tons of pages in the topic to comb through... When's the OMOD.io site going up?

Very close Josh. Literately working on it now. I'm not taking the site live for pre-orders until I can confirm actual shipping dates. We have locked every piece of supply chain. And many rather large POs have already been issued - so if this isn't as awesome as I think it's gonna be - I'll be moving to Costa Rica and bleaching my hair :)

I just need to test new revs of three boards which I am doing next week in OC.

I'm starting to twist Phil Holland's arm to do some advanced feature testing and maybe make one of his awesome charts to help explain all the models / options - as the issue with so many features and options - some times it works against you.

Mark, that sounds like a good goal anyway…a lot less stress

EDIT: Looking at the above picture.... dear god Scarlet-W is going to look hideous with the duo tone colors of the camera, and then the entirely different finish on the OMOD. Mark, any chance the final product will match the black finish on the Weapon? Function before fashion so it is what it is, but it doesn't hurt to hope. :)

You could also think of it as being liberated from feeling like you have to find components that are built exactly in the same color scheme and style as the brain, just to make the camera look "perfect". ;) Just rig it up with the right tools for your workflow, then hit "record". Proof will be in the pudding.

I think the scarlet looks awesome. Battleship grey is the preferred color for colorists workspaces, this is the same color my office is painted. It also reminds me of some bot Darth Vader would send after someone..
