  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

OFFHOLLYWOOD HOTLINK + HOT TAP + HOTBOX R/S WIFI for RED DSMC cameras

Nice Isaac...
Hotbox is an incredible addition to the Epic. Extremely well designed and built...it has everything you need in one compact little box. Evertime I put it on the Dragon, I just stare at the d-taps and admire. We just received the new ET Dragon body cover and combined with the Hotbox and Switchblade its the perfect rig.

I agree. I'm working through some issues with my ET Motor driver with Mark, but I think we've got some potential solutions. Great customer service.

Sick. Thanks! So are you aiming to alternatively control FIZ of the ET WMD via foolcontrol?

No. That can't be done, and I don't know why I'd want to control a physical follow focus via a touch screen when I have a remote that translates much more delicate commands in a more ergonomic manner. Fool control for me is purely for settings and playback on set. Start/Stop and FIZ are more applicable via the hand controller.

Will the REDLINK Android app work with HotLink?

Yes - you just need to enter the HOTLINK AP address - as FOOLCONTROL auto-discovers the HOTLINK.

And just like that it's working. That was easy! Thank you Mark!!! Still excited to see what your mystery product for NAB is going to be!

Hi Mark,

Sent you an email Friday night re issues with my Hotlink, which I hooked up on Friday to my Epic for the first time since the Hotlink was delivered last November (don't ask about the delay trying it, LOL). Anyway, just wanted to make sure you got the email, not because I would expect customer support like that over a weekend but because your reputation for that is so outstanding that it dawned on me you may not actually have gotten the email. So reply here or PM me if you did not, and I will resend.

Cheers!

I got your email - I'll connect with you today.

Since I posted about having issues with my Hotlink, just thought I'd post this follow up on the (very slight) chance that someone else might experience the same issue.

I followed all the instructions for setup, including changing the settings on the Serial Tab of the Communications menu of the Epic to "REDLINK Command". Everything looked fine: I had a steady blue light on the Hotlink indicating power from my P-Tap source, and the Hotlink wifi network was easily found and connected to by my ipod touch. But when I launched Foolcontrol, I was not seeing my camera. Rescanning multiple times from the app front page, rebooting both camera, Hotlink, and ipod touch didn't help. Nor did several attempts to re-seat the serial cable that connects the Hotlink to the camera control port. Because the LEMO connector on my RED touch LCD cable recently broke off numerous pins in the jack on my camera, I have been especially careful dealing with LEMO connectors, so I figured it was fully plugged in after there was an initial click and a good deal of resistance to further insertion.

As it turned out, when I set the Hotlink up again on a separate day to get ready for a trouble shooting phone call with Mark, I pushed substantially harder when I reached the point of resistance on the control port and, voila, all issues were solved. So if anyone is as conservative as I am with LEMO connectors, be aware that you will have to push beyond that first point that feels like it's "in".

Thanks to Mark for setting up to do the trouble shooting phone call, though, thankfully, it wasn't necessary in the end.:-)

I'll second Mark's service. I had a couple of issues with my Hotbox, and I don't want to imply the design isn't good, just that this is a brand new product, and corner cases like mine allow Mark to plan around some of the weirder hardware out there. Specifically the ET/RED motordriver requires a higher amperage fuse, since it draws more than 2 Amps.

I really want to thank mark for making a great product, which I can now bang on and figure out how to break! ;)

Any news on a right angled lemo cable? (as opposed to the straight one that is currently bundled with it)

Received the HotLink today and have been playing with it and Foolcontrol all afternoon. What a GREAT combination. Still trying to figure out how to setup the multi-turn focus feature and how to delete the range marks, but this is simply too cool for words. Also, must give a huge THANK YOU to Mark Pederson. Sent him a question via email and he replied, "what phone # are you at?" He called and helped to verify what I was doing. Had I waited a bit longer, I wouldn't have to have bothered him, but he was Johnny-On-The-Spot with personalized help and it was very much appreciated. Thanks, Mark.

Also a HUGE amount of admiration for Mikael Lubtchansky for developing a very slick product in Foolcontrol with a wonderful interface. Nicely done! I'm simply in awe of folks like these gentlemen.

EDIT: Figured it out already. Also love the pinch 1:1. It's all very intuitive.

Yeah its pretty cool stuff, now where's that LUT module Mark :)
