Just remember, most of the time I have absolutely no idea what I'm talking about, and that's when I'm fully healthy :-) The big picture is what's important and interesting to me.

The subject to change rule applies in spades for me :-)

:) Damn! And I had hoped at least somebody was for once spilling some little beanies...

Ah, then I'll wait till the end of this month...

I assumed you were speaking in generalities and not making an official announcement. Still, can't wait to get the full scoop on the 30th.

I have tried to follow this tread, have anyone commented on the red-gunner in this bulldog image?

http://red.cachefly.net/A/BULLDOG.jpg

It sure looks as the right hand handle has been detached in this image, leaving a bracket of some sort. One can clearly see the ribs on "the gunner" peeping out from under the lens.

Jarred mentioned that more accessories could be mounted on the gunner that was thought of. Any qualified speculation on this other side of the "gold coin"?

These systems will have an impact. Massive. Thx Red team.

Aww, man. :nads: You got me and that hurts.

Ted, for someone who doesn't know what they are talking about you sound awfully convincing.

I, too, thought that perhaps someone was spilling those beanies.

Jim We love the new design of EPIC X but.... Where we can put old RED ONE accessoy like..

EVF/LCD
RED DRIVE
RED BRICK
CRADLE
UNIVERSAL MONT
...

Show us picture of EPIC X with this accessory..Because lot of REDUSER like me don't want do buy all accessory in every Upgrade of camera..

Why? Just add 19mm rods to the system and off you go. Looks like RED will be providing a new type of top-handle mount that has 19mm support. Ann your existing stuff will be able to mount onto those. LCDs are simple but hopefully we'll get better cables.

Thank you for those kind words Quentin_B :)

I'm glad my posts have helped you...

May i suggest a nice ap via iphone/pocket pc/laptop (or even the red mote if it has the processing power) to make focus/iris/zoom controls fully customizable to level of motion control systems. In other words an ap that can take any given data (such as stepper motor position) and align that data with the lens data in complex sequences. You could bring in a dedicated programmer for the job and charge for the app like an accessory. This would give unlimited possibilities in lens control from motion control ( from high end to low budget) to helping the ENG section with zoom/focus control, electronic pan tilt, time-lapse, laser focus etc... to more advanced automated focus control yet to be designed to make peoples jobs easier. The technology is there, its affordable and fairly easy to implement. (you have most of the expensive stuff already implemented) All you need is a standard of determining a fixed point in xyz of any given space and align it with the sensor plane as a 0 reference. After that all data can be refereed to that point by any sensor the user chooses by using xyz coordinates in relation (ie the distance between the 0 and the object of desire) This data speaks to the electronic lens which gives the desired response. Moving the camera then takes into account the difference between 0 and the new position in xyz space (using the accelerometer)making the changes accordingly. For this you need some processing power to process this data, easily available in latest low cost mobile phones/laptops or with great hope, the Redmote.

not specific to RED?

not specific to RED?

That seems like a possible 3rd-party solution for a lens controller. As far as I can tell from what you are asking for, it doesn't need to interface directly to the camera- in fact it could apply equally to any other brand camera?

Thanks Jarred. Hey they other thing I asked about earlier was how much does the Epic S35 rig weigh as configured for the trade in for my Red One?

Brain + modules + batts + monitor, etc....

Just curious how they compare.

Mark

Can someone please respond this request?

Thanks,

M

Yes, if i found a third party company that had the same integrity, foresight, project management prowess, know how, balls and design coolness as Red i'd be asking asking the same question to a broader audience. If anyone knows of such a company, please send them a link to this thread page.

Mark... your curiosity will be satisfied when we get a chance. You might imagine that we have a very long list of things to do and a thousand requests. We are doing the best we can. Full specs will be published well before you have to make any decision.

If you need and answer now... roughly same stuff is a bit less. But it is hard to know exactly what you are asking for because you aren't specific which modules you are talking about. We don't have time to weigh every possible combo.

Ted,

Had not heard you were in the hospital, and I do hope you ARE healthy now. And best wishes for continued health and wellness.

As long as were talking about software, I'd love to plug the Redmote into a laptop via the USB and be able to have control of all (or at least major groups) of the cameras functions on one screen all at once, similar to what Canon did for their XL-H1's with their Console software.

Don't the cameras have WiFi? It would probably be possible to use that for controlling your camera - say, if you set up an ad-hoc network between a laptop and the camera and RED made some software to do this. As long as latency over the network wasn't an issue, I think this would be a better solution than using the REDMOTE.

...even the universal mount ?

This is really really great Jim.

The only remaining question for me is to know how the EPIC works for fast shoulder to tripod work :)

Thanks!

Antoine

I'm hoping for something conceptually similar to the Arricam LT's Shoulder Set [K2.54023.0, google it]. It's essentially a short bridge plate [15mm studio or 19mm] that reaches a bit forward of the underside of the camera body so as not to interfere with the ideal shoulder placement. It has rosettes for handles and a large-euro-shaped foot on the bottom [though a simple tapped surface would be more ideal].

It's not a perfect accessory, but the concept is good. I'm just hoping for a short bridge plate that reaches *forward* under the lens mount [sort of where the bottom of a mirror shutter might be] so as to keep the frontmost area of the "cutout" on the bottom of the camera body available for your shoulder.

The current bridge plates I've seen rendered with the built-in shoulder pad are really great [more similar to a BP-8 in many ways], but I'm hoping for one that essentially attaches farther forward without a shoulder pad built in. If I had to guess, I'd assume the current bridge plates have provisions for an Arri dovetail... and that the shoulder pad either slides into that or some similar quick-release attachment point. What I'm suggesting is a handheld-specific apparatus that doesn't have a female Arri dovetail... simply a spot to screw in a QRP.

It's a half-baked idea, I'd need to spend some time with a camera body and a sketchpad to make any good judgment.
