Hi Jim and Jarred,

I don't know if this question already is asked...But what will happen to al the RED ONE's that are trade in for a EPIC TATOO.....Are you going to sell them again?

W

Well It would be IF that touch screen was wireless and in the hands of the focus puller.

I don't see how it would be practical for the DOP to have his finger on the screen constantly while doing a shoot. And since your fingers are not transparent they will "conveniently" cover up the very thing you are trying to record, frame and follow.

lots of other uses for the camera's beyond just traditional cinema where this could be a very neat feature.

Plus... use a stylus, as opposed to a big fat finger :)

touch screen rack focus?

THAT sounds tasty.

And with my fat fingers, yeah a RED stylus would definetly be in order.

Hi Jarred or any of the Red Team,
I am curious what type of motors the touch focus is going to be working with.
Is it only the electronic lenses that have an AF option? Or with the system be able to communicate with Heden, M1, Preston type motors?

Also the one touch screen that you guys have shown us seems to be something that will be mounted, or at least tethered.

Is there going to be some kind of wireless touch follow focus connection solution?
I can just imagine the 1st ac during a fast paced scene trying to keep his finger on the screen while I whip pan to something. Or for a Steadicam this would be impractical.

I do really love the idea of touch screen focus. Just trying to figure out how it's going to be realized in practice.

Thanks for all you hard work in this whole revolution you guys are making possible.

now you're talking!!!!

If the redmote infact can control every aspect of the camera.. It would be very very usefull to have an analogue controler like a wheel which can be set as a custom variable for any number of functions.. That little unit could save you big money for having to invest in a follow focus, zoom, Iris system.

With an foot long cord so it could be mounted anywhere on the setup.

Stuff like that is possible to build.

Question. We know the ring on the fixed Scarlet is an encoder, but will it have hard stops at some degree of rotation?

yes

yes.. and there are a few other features for racking etc. that should make you guys pretty happy.

yes

This is all excellent news - totally change the focus puller / toucher works.

Thanks for this info!

Steve

Edit: Wait.. Didn't Jim say that the ring was meant to be FOCUS only? Where did the encoder thing come from?

"And on the fixed 8x lens.. remember the ring on the lens is electronic. Which means you can program it to control focus. or iris. or zoom. Some people might want to touch focus or auto focus and use that ring for zoom control. Some might not. The choice is yours."

My guess... Very doubtfull. Would require to have the ring not only transmitting but also receiving data along with a servo or something to make it stop at the right point. Sounds to expensive to have that level of engineering in a camera at that price point.. But sure would be a nice touch.

If the answer turns out to be YES.. I will be very impressed.

Beat ya Steven...:)

Guess I have too much lunch time on my hands today...

Can I put TWO fingers on the focus touch screen
and have the brain calculate the average?

... and my next question would be...
if the brain can focus on the average of the two points, is there an option so that the brain auto adjusts iris and ISO so dof will be adjusted to accommodate
both points? (or is that a little far fetched)
