Thanks, Jarred! As someone who is new to this forum and the RED camera world in general, after reading all 80+ pages of this thread, I have to say that I am blown away by your (and Jim's and all the other RED folks) willingness to share time and information with us. The technology, engineering and manufacturing precision evident in all the RED products in quite amazing, IMO. I have been in this industry for a long time, and you guys set a new standard in communication, transparency and helpfulness. I hope everyone here appreciates how lucky they are that you guys care so much!

Just my .02...

Tom

Thanks Tom.. welcome aboard the RED Roller Coaster :)

We love being here just as much as some of you do, so it's really no sweat.

Now about the Gunner Rig.. lots of questions but at this point there are not alot of answers I can give you.. The one thing I can tell you is that the main tube is not "active".. i.e there are not motors or lasers or little hamsters hiding inside it.

That does not mean however that active accessories can not attach to it though... heh heh heh. :)

Which makes you wonder if they actually make something that DOES have little hamsters inside it, for him to suggest it.

:D

I though hamsters came back in Build 18. Or was it Beta Build 20? :tongue_smilie:

Jarred, any shot you can elaborate on the RED electronic lens mounting system? Thanks!
Peace,

-Harry

I'm very pleased to hear the lens for the fixed 2/3 Scarlet is finished. I was certain that the lens itself would delay the release. Good news, good news!

The lens was quite the accomplishment... and the optics turned out pretty badass.

Being a Still and Motion lens we had some huge hurdles to overcome, and some of our own pegged the lens as the long pull when we started as well.

I hope some of you will agree that we are actually starting to get pretty good at the whole lens game... :yesnod:

Looks like 24-75 to me...

Correct-o...

as for the RED MOUNT.. we are not quite ready to disclose the full details yet. I can tell you though that it of course is electronic, it has a FF35 Image Circle, and a custom flange depth.

If I were to hypothetically say that the first three hypothetical RED electronic lenses were a 12-24, 24-75 and 75-200, each at f/2.8, would I hypothetically be anywhere near the truth?

If you can't say, it's all good. But it's fun to see how much we can get from you guys!
Peace,

-Harry

jarred,

only the electronic mounts were included in the pricing for the epic announcement. I assume that the scarlet and epic would use the same pl mount, but not pricing was given. Does this mean that brains come with a pl mount included?

I would love confirmation on this but, if this is something i need to wait until the 30th to hear just let me know

you are very close...

O.k.. i gotta go be a good husband for a couple hours.. I have rudely ignored the wife since Friday so I gotta go be a good boy....

See you guys in a bit.. stay out of trouble :)

yes.. Brains come with PL mount standard (at least for now)

boot time is supposed to be under 2 seconds. :)

could I ask the new Epic-X booting time? will be faster then Red 1 now?

i dont know specific boot times but jarred has said before that speeding it up was very high on their priority list

Ok. I thought there was going to be a release date, order time etc. Is this a release date of the release date or what? Sounds like a new rehash of a rehash of what the cameras are going to hypothetically do and maybe cost potentially or thereabouts. You know I've perused this site from time to time and have been very disappointed as to the progress of this camera. Kissing Red's *ss aint going to get you a free camera or ahead of the line. If you bought a Red, then perhaps you might have some leverage, but this is sick. When you go fishing you throw out a bunch of chum to attract the fish. I see this as chum and nothing else. Kick me if you want, but camera date release, a down payment order, or something for us little guys who are not going to make a motion picture (but the real money maker for this camera) would be a smart move. I do ballet's, sports, weddings, quincineras, music vids for people with a lot of money who would buy this camera in a heart beat if they saw me using it and heard how much I paid. Instead you release it to a few hundred camera geeks to test because they bought a Red? Annoying.

Just noticed that the Gunner photos show a Red zoom lens with 24mm at the wide (as opposed to the 25-100/2.8 listed). Is that something new?

Red station and power

Red station and power

If the Red Station uses the same backplane as the camera modules, does that mean that you could:

a) Use red power modules with it?
Please? So I don't have to drain my laptop battery even more on location, or drag an inverter along to run power from a vehicle to download footage.

b) Use Red Station with an attached RedMote instead of a "computer" to manage footage and images between storage media?

Sorry you didn't hear the news you wanted but what you heard was where we are and what we are doing. To tell you something you wanted to hear wouldn't have been real. You have lots of options... but getting us to change our program to fit your wishes is not one of them.

Jim

Not to be repetitive, but it would be nice to keep all the rants and criticism to the appropriate thread as doing so here is getting annoying. I look forward to a community full of healthy debate not impassioned posts that are essentially saying the same thing.
