  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Obsolescence obsolete...

Hey Jim.

Welcome back.. You've been missed. I've enjoyed my time with RED since the beginning.. I still have my titanium R. #326. Very proud of that. I intend to keep up the journey.

Bit of a reunion happening here!

:)

Old times. new times. Good times.

I think the Red One MX, along with the DVX100 and 35mm lens adapters. and the 5d Mark II camera and the iphone, help lead the democratization of high end 35mm sensor filmmaking. The result I think is seen with this year's Sundance Film festival, where a film shot on an iphone with anamorphic lenses got serious critical acclaim.

I personally think the Red One MX with SSD side tecnology is Red's finest camera - 800 ASA, no fan issues - xlrs on camera and 3 easy to access HD SDI outputs - the skin tones were perfect and it had a certain beauty in recording slow motion -a beautiful motion cadence . I very much look forward to the Red Weapon and hope that it can create an image as wonderful with similar sensitivity and wonderful highlight rolloff as the red dragon, but with better to access HD SDI and XLR ports and less black balance issues and fan issues and maybe even a way to transcode built in to pro res or avid dnx hd files. I cannot wait. I am so proud of where Red has gone. 2015 is looking to be quite an exciting year for camera technology development.

Jim --

You're older.

You're crazier.

Keep going. Early adopter here - it's been a hell of a ride.

I was tired too - tired of the media business I was in. Tired of the mediocre images I was creating and tired of the expensive upgrades that delivered so little.

Then came you and RED!

Not tired anymore :) Thanks Jim sooo much!

Jim,

Way back in 1998 I flew an animatronic bird under my RC helicopter for a small film by Sharon Stone. On the same set a guy was filming out the side door of a Jetranger. I remember thinking, "how cool would it be to fly a cinema camera from an RC helicopter". When you released Epic, my dream instantly turned to the amazing reality that I am living every day. Please don't wake me up and thanks!

Welcome back, Jim!!! You have been missed.

Price aside what you get is creative freedom...those too young to remember what a stranglehold ARRI had on the young creative minds with prices so high that to build a reel cost more than all the upgrades combined, and I am eternally greatful Jim for what you've done to help us be free!!!
True that!

I am sitting here in Atlanta prepping an 80 million dollar film for FOX . Sitting next to me is my Dragon on my desk. I just shot a test with my Nikon glass, by myself.Simple. Now that same camera goes to Keslow in LA and gets prepped as a studio camera with Cooke and Angie PL glass. Amazing how versatile this little beast is.

Could not be happier.....

I have bought and sold a few RED cameras over the years. I've even sold some RED cameras for much more than I bought them for :)
Being an early adopter with priority for upgrades has certainly been a worthwhile investment for my camera rental business. Overall I have been very happy with RED and their “Obsolescence Obsolete” upgrade program.

Jim, since the first time I shook your hand at NAB at that Apple event for FCP Studio (2006?), I've been a fan, and became an owner the next year thanks to a generous Reduser.
Red is not bs no matter what anyone and their dog may say.
I'm fully on-board with the Red way of life.
Now if I could just get on board the Red jet... ;)

I had a couple of red one's and they where awesome cameras. I moved to the Epic-m then Epic-M dragon for a measly 9500 I got for the most part
A BRAND NEW CAMERA....! Tell me someone else doing that kind of program. I'm super excited about the new weapon though even though I
just upgraded to Dragon not even 2 months ago and I'm sure If I did another upgrade my years worth Red Armor will disappear like a fart in the wind
and I'd probably have to re buy a warranty that I only got to use for 4 months!

Jim, I wish you were more on these boards, not necessarily as Red founder in Recon, but as a member in every other subsections. It was nice when you answered ones post, a kind of pride to catch your eyes.

Welcome back.
