I agree...

I agree...

I'd like to see a three-lens turret option on the Scarlet 2/3" that accepts the mini-primes. This shouldn't interfere with the board stack, right? It probably wouldn't interfere with the cooling system duct. Anyway, I think it would be a desirable option.

And the idea of the month award goes to...

A custom lens mount that rotates the primes is an awesome idea!!!

I read this, and had a complete 'DOH!' moment. Of course a rotating lens turret could be engineered for the mini primes!

You could pick which 3 mini primes to put in the turret... It'd save time on set, and make run and gun shooting more versatile.

I'm sure you guys are listening...

heh heh heh..... turrets....

Brilliant.

That would be a rather large turret I think... And rather pointless with there being the 8X fixed model, unless you just gotta have that T1.5 all the time.

However, my inner geek would love to see a turret system like that just for the pure geek aspect of it, no matter how impractical it may be.

Really?!? Why would anyone mount there Canon or Nikon lenses on a 2/3 Scarlet? The widest prime lens from Canon is a 14mm for $2300 and that would become a 56mm? Weird. I'll get the Fixed Scarlet or go with the mini primes that were designed for this cam. Hope others here that are talking about using their old SLR lenses realize the FOV sacrifice if they purchase a $500 adapter for the 2/3 Scarlet.

Thanks for the heads up Matthew!

This is the exact thought I had recently as well. Which is why I think the Fixed for me is the way to go as well. Glad to see others are making the same observation!

This is something I've definitely considered myself. I think it basically comes down to absorbed costs.

Say I already own and use a set of lenses for a Canon SLR: 11-16mm Tokina, 30mm f/1.4, 50mm f/1.4. Fairly standard lenses that offer pretty good image quality (or "great" depending on who you ask). That cost (~$2000) is already paid and recouped by jobs using the lenses and another camera. In order for me to use them on the Scarlet, it doesn't really cost anything since I already own them and they have paid their way!

So for me to have three fairly good lenses to use on the 2/3" Scarlet, I'd only have to pay for the adapter - $500. $500 to use those lenses, as well as any others I'd care to slap on is a great deal for people who have invested already in Canon glass. Of course, there is the need for wider focal lengths, where I would certainly buy the RMPs - but those would need to be purchased anyway, so they don't really add any disadvantage to the overall cost.

If the 2/3" is to be an individuals only camera for some significant period of time, however, I feel they would be remiss to pass up the RMP for something else. Similarly, if I really wanted a cohesive and extremely high quality RED setup, I'd definitely go with the RMPs.

Using Canon (or any other lenses) doesn't necessitate a mistake, so long as one isn't going out and purchasing a set of these lenses brand new for the Scarlet, in which case they would be better served by the RMPs. If someone already has a set of Canon lenses they can create a mixed case of lenses for Scarlet for less than a full set of RMPs.

Dunno if it's been asked already. Lost track of this at page 30ish.

Are the CF card readers going to support CFast?

It needs a new reader module (it's a different interface) but we will support it as soon as it's viable.

have not seen it addressed previously, but has the specs of the still picture capability of the 2/3 been posted anywhere? I know it's probably not going to be a major selling point for most people, but just curious.

Also, has there been any talk of making the fixed 8x lens for the fixed available as a lens to buy? Most of my work would require that lens, but i would like the flexibility of being able to put some prime lenses on there when needed.
thanks.

The fixed lens is fixed to the sensor. It's a package. It won't be available separately. To see, have a look at the last image in the October announcement thread.

Per Ed and Brian's exchange, are we assuming that 28MB/sec is the data rate floor. Can it be lower?

I see the Red Drive available for $900. Since it holds 640 GB, looks like one might be able to get 380.95 minutes (6.3 hours) off of this drive at 28MB/sec. Will this Red Drive support faster frame rates? Is this a viable solution?

Are you asking if Red will rehouse it and offer it as a optional zoom lens for the 2/3" interchangeable?

Your mini primes look small enough to work in a 'turret' configuration and it sure would be easier to switch on the fly like that.

I'm not gonna lie- I just caught up on all my backlog of missed Family Guy episodes on Hulu and my joke machine is running wild...

Yes yes yes. I know... I'm a :thumb_postwhore:

Jim / Jarred,

Anyone who buys a RED One or has a RED One already will not be able to trade their camera for a later model EPIC like the FF35 or 645 or the 617? So you are stuck with the EPIC S35 option only. This is important to know. Right now I'm forced to assume that you can only go EPIC S35 from RED One and not anything else.

Lee, I should have put it a little differently. I think you knew what you were trying to say, but the language you used could lead to confusion for those that do not fully understand this. It is an issue I have to deal with constantly and have had to explain to many people. I was trying to clearly state the concept, but I shouldn't have done it in a way that indicated that you were wrong.

We're cool. :)
