  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

You can either use the memory cards or get a Red Drive or Red Ram (solid state) -- for a run & gun documentary, I suggest staying away from the Red Drive and either springing for the more expensive Red Ram (for longer recording times) or using the flash cards, but you'll need a lot of them. Though for sitdown interviews, the Red Drives are robust enough and will hold more footage than the cards.

The main problem is that you need to download and back-up all that data every evening; it's not like a videotape you can toss into a bag and wait until post to deal with.

Yes i know... Backing up data in the evening shouldn't be a problem, but doing it twice a day would be one... With red one you can shoot 8 minutes at 4k on 16gb CF, how long with 2k ? I'd need at least 1h on 2 cards to have something usable. Any 32gb (holy expensive...) CF on the way ? :-D

If possible, i'll come to pick up camera in california when it's ready. Do red plan to allow on site delivery for those new cameras ?




EDIT : I found some answers already : about 38 minutes on 16gb cards at 2k. Not bad for interviews, I can use higher resolutions for city shots...

something to think about when shooting 2k. Since you said you haven't worked with the Red One, you may not know it; but when you shoot 2K it essentially doubles your lens. So 25mm becomes 50mm etc.
 
I've been wondering lately when we're going to see some info about the other accessories that have been alluded to. A lot of the Epic/Scarlet renders, especially on red.com/press, show accessories that we haven't really heard about. New shoulder mount, mounts for the RAM and Drives, what looks like a new v-mount for Bricks, the stereoscopic rig. Any word on when we might see some info/prices for these items?
 
Ok...Am I missing something? Every time I see an image of the Scarlet it appears to have a CF card module on the side. Is that just for presentation purpose or is it going to come with one already attached?
 
My understanding of at least the Scarlet Fixed is that yes it would have a side mount CF card reader. Of course, everything is subject to change :)
 
According to the www.red.com website, RedRay is a 2009 product!
