  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Nov. 3rd take 2...

I can't help but read it as Jim saying 'We've made EPIC for the bigger budget guys, now we're going to unleash this scarlet thing onto the world which doesn't require a purse quite as big but is still just as PRO as anything else we do. We are going to change the market AGAIN.' But that is my reading.

The biggest announcement does not equal better than EPIC camera for everyone. Every design is a trade-off, a cinema camera is not the best solution for everyone.
 
You guys are crazy. Scarlet will not be better than EPIC. Really? What are you smokin'?

If Canon can beat EPIC... God love them. We'll fold up our tent. Are you guys serious?

ah, but this is what Modularity brings... CHOICES and FLEXIBILITY. Frm Scarlet to Epic. The bottom line is 3 years from NOV 3.

Canon will be announcing another CAMERA

Red will be announcing another brain or module to EXTEND YOUR INVESTMENT

Price and value are not the same thing

Your starting to scare me...

I may hold just hold back on that new EPIC order until I know what comes out in the wash 3 NOV..

I'm excited and scared at the same time...

This NEW canon CINE camera has been seen out in the wilds of LA testing a couple of times... I'm sure Jim you have a pretty good idea whats coming from them.

you should know that 400 employees at RED can't earn enough to sell about 2000 Epics M+X and earn for living.

It must be something bigger valued for less money that they can sell for tens of thousands and then earn their salaries.

And what it could be?

4K, 120fps, small, lightweight, PL/Canon EF mounts, HDMI/HD-SDI and playback from day one enabled, accessories compatible with Epic...

All for about $12,000 (body only)!

No more backorders...

Am I kidding again?

Indeed. And this is also why Canon, unless they radically change, is unlikely to tempt me. RED just has a number of things going for them which I feel Canon are very unlikely to match. Jim's passion is a big one of them :)

And price is what makes Scarlet better than EPIC for me, even with all the guessing what it'll turn out to be - we're in a bit of a vacuum here Jim - I'm pretty sure I can own one! It's my entry ticket.
 
Nov. 3rd will be very telling. It is all about the customer. We'll see who serves the customer best on Nov. 3rd.

The speculations about the announcment seem to be spiralling out of control. I'm not saying that the announcment won't be huge and exceed anything thought up in the original '3k For 3k' days, but there should be realistic limits.

To me, suggestions of Scarlet being better than Epic seem silly - and potentially raise peoples expectations to the point where they can only ever be dissapointed at 6:01

Also its amazing that we have Jim publicly boasting how his product will trump canons offerings and how incredible they will be, potentially giving canon the time and thought space to rethink and deliver more, at the potential risk of damaging REDs own sales if they over deliver!

That is pure confidence.

Of course we're all nuts. That's why we own RED. That's why we defend RED. That's why we support RED in the trenches, thousands of miles away from Irvine.
