  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Noise Removal Software recommendations

Neat Video works super well. Just make sure to turn the settings way down. I often do several passes at really low settings rather than one at a "normal" setting.

I'm using DaVinci Resolve Lite. Aram what do you recommend for removing noise Neat Video, DeNoiser or something else?
Spend the money and get the full version of Resolve Studio. Their latest version of Temporal NR and Spatial NR are very good, and there's enough additional features the cost is worth it. (Note there are used dongles widely available for sale on eBay.)

+1 on Resolve Studio.
I haven't tried other noise software to compare though.

Go with combo of Resolve Studio and Neat Video. Great value!

This by far.

$1,000 is dirt cheap for what you get. I am surprised at times when someone buys a Red but cuts corners on audio or post software.

To be clear, not suggesting that one person should do it all. :)

I gotta say, I own two dongles myself and haven't spent anywhere close to $1000 for the two of them. They can be had for maybe $300-$400 if you look around on the used market. Even at $1000, Resolve is an extraordinarily good value.

I paid $500 for mine.

+1. Got my dongle for almost free. Resolve studio is great for noise remover/reducer, especially when you use the splitter/combiner node and do per channel NR.

Just a question from someone who does not use this kind of software: does Resolve Studio have sensor profiles? Or does it ask the user to set a sensor profile manually (e.g. by selecting a neutral gray part of the image)?

neat video also does per channel noise reduction and chroma/luma which is recommended

Just a heads up, now with version 14, Resolve studio is now $299. Which for me makes the decision easy.

You can do that in Resolve as well with a Splitter/Combiner node. I will occasionally do Blue-only NR when the other channels are fine.

In my world Neat Video is the industry standard but... I am not working at the super high end. It is very very good and quite slow. Last I checked it was well ahead of Resolve's denoiser (according to some random person I asked, admittedly) but times change so I can't say....

It is slow.... requires a bit of trial and error to get good results but if you're patient you'll figure it out. Easy to over do it.

That's true for all grain reduction/noise reduction. Bear in mind you can apply NR to highlights only, blacks only, mids only, even do all three at different settings, or apply NR to just a specific part of the shot or a specific color. BMD is claiming better performance from Resolve 14, but be warned it's only in Beta right now.

Do You guys renoise/regrain Your footaga after denoise/degrain process or leave it clean?
