  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

News from Cool Lights

Ok! Thanks for answering my question Richard. I'm awaiting the arrival of your 256LED for this purposes. I have a night scene and I need a soft light for my actress face while she walks on a tree lined footpath. I noticed you include a diffusion in your kit. Is that one stop light loss? Would I still need the 1/4 minus green if its night shots or can I keep that 1/4 stop and cc?

I would say use the 1/4 minus green alone. The diffusion really acts more like a scrim or dimmer. Making the light softer is more a matter of increasing the surface area emanating light. Just adding the diffusion alone will mainly dim the light. We'll eventually have a softbox for the 256 which will be the real answer for a good and extremely small portable soft light.

What do you mean by balanced top handle? As far as a boom pole mount, its got a 1/4-20 thread on the bottom so you could probably find a way to do that fairly easily.

I meant something like this. Sorry for crude diagram !

Thanks Nils and Rob. I'll consider the 1/2 CTO, I have thought about that before.

Where would you put the dimmer knob? Seemed to be best protected where it is right next to the stand adapter.
The big knob in the back of the litepanels seems to be the best solution to me. It doesn't stick out that much. Less accessible but better protected I guess.

But you probably know better than me if people already have had issues with broken knobs on the LED600 or not. Maybe it is fine as it is.

No broken knobs so far. I tried to keep things sticking out on the back to a minimum so the 600 could be put down on its back and not have any humps sticking out.

Richard, have you ever though about making a rig to mount 4 of the Led600s together in an array like this:

picture.php

It would require a 1-1/8" Junior pin so that it could be used with a combo stand.

The handles on top of the unit are problematic to do something like that. Our solution was the LEDHBAR and LEDVBAR units that we have. Those allow you to also pivot each light so that they all can be pointing the same way or angled differently if you prefer.

My LED256 arrived last night and I had a shoot with it this morning - I love this little light.
I have a quick question for the community of coollight led users.

Do you use the minus 1/4 green more than the minus 1/2?

In what scenarios do you use the 1/2 instead of the 1/4?

I have a 1/4 minus green GAM filter that lives in all of my cool light LEDs.

It is very thin, and then you can also put one of the thick plastic CTOs when you need it.

There isn't enough space to fit two of the hard filters in there, imo.

Hey Matt, have you ever had a need for minus 1/2 green ?
If so, in what situations would you use it?

Just ordered another one, these little 256'ers are just too cool.
Thanks for being f---ing awesome Richard!

And by the way, that's a LED600 in my new avatar. :001_tongue:

Been using these for a few weeks now, and am really happy with them. Everyone I showed them to also loved them.
I wouldn't be surprised if you got some new french customers in the upcoming year...

Just thought I'd jump in here with a positive reply from a user.

I purchased 5 CL-LED600 about a year ago and have been using them a whole bunch in motion picture and still shoots. So far I'm extremely happy with their performance and durability. Affordable and a deal for what they actually deliver.
Looking forward to larger panels in the future too.

On set everybody asks me about them.

A still with a 3 light setup.
