  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Newer REDCINE-X posted...

sorry just to be clear
any chance of developing an app for the iPad to give us a virtual wave-like control surface, using the iPad screen as virtual track balls etc...? for color correction and other screens for other uses. $499 for a multipurpose control surface sounds like good value.

AE certainly will deal with 16 bit tiffs and 10-bit DPX files. It's had that ability for as long as I can remember.

Yes AE but not all the plugins you could use. And definately not Premiere. So it would be nice to be able to output 8 bits tifs... for people who are dealing with a good amount of dailies and to avoid being obliged to batch convert these tif files in Photoshop. But I guess I won't get an answer from Red this time too

Should RedCine-X build 96 run on a 64 bit Windows system? I haven't been able to run any of the posted 3K .r3d files on my system. A002.C009.07231V.001.R3D will run for several seconds in the clip selection window when I hover the mouse pointer over the clip icon, but then it turns to noise and RedCine-X crashes. A002.C003.07236R.001.R3D runs for only a few frames before it too turns to noise and the program crashes. The program always crashes on exit. I have unzipped the downloaded application file to a temporary file on my Desktop and am running it from there. The .r3d files are in a sub-folder. These are my basic system specs:

Operating System ... Windows Vista 64 Ultimate
DirectX ................. 4.09.00.0904 (DirectX 9.0c)
Video Adapter ........ NVIDIA GeForce GTX 280
CPU ..................... Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU 920 @ 2.67GHz
Memory ................ 6134 MB

My use of RedCine-X is not critical; I've been using to it test my system in anticipation of purchasing a fixed Scarlet.

Thanks,
Curtis

Can I get word from someone at Red (or is there already) on the time horizon on implementing XML import/export with Redcine-X? Is that even in the cards?

It appears that importing intermediate alias files is not compatible with Redcine-X... which means that using Crimson Workflow to facilitate transcoding cutdown selects is disabled. This is a setback for our workflow. Is there forthcoming support for this?

Thanks in advance.

You can still use AE in 8bit mode with 16 bit files.
You can also output to a quicktime codec that does 8bit.

It might be that the download was bad and the clip is now corrupt.

What's an iPad?

:)

The Quicktime output module isn't stable for shots and numerous shots on PC, as it always has been with Redcine. When you have 20 hours of footage, it's nice to have the possiblity to reduce the TIF/DPX file size by just clicking on a "8 bits" option. It's not a lot of work for Red to implement, and it really helps people who are doing post-production work. Conforming a feature with AE is just a pain compared to Premiere Pro.

By the way, it happens quite often that the tif files, at some time of otput, become an empty file (a 204 bytes one instead of a 48 MB one for a 4K). The DPX seems more stable.

But what's really worrying is the "output to different folder" which doesn't work. If you output this way different clips from the timeline, it ouputs everything in a single folder. If you output the clips from a bin, it outputs the first clip in all the folders which havec been created though.

Thanks anyway for the hard work.

BTW, there is no shared code between redcinex and redcine especially with respect to quicktime. If you're seeing any instability, please send us the log files so we can take a look at whats happening. Same of the tiff files.

Thanks Deanan. You know, I'm sure that I'm not the only one to be ready to pay for a software like this if this could improve the effectiveness of development and the solving of issues.

I'm not on Mac but I seriously consider to buy one if this could help me color correcting my Red footage. From your point of view, is the Mac version of Redcine-X safer than the PC one ? And is Color 1.5 stable enough to ingest 20 hours of Red footage ?

Thanks !

The Mac version has been out a bit longer so it's had a bit more work on it.
Redcinex is brand new and we are adding alot of features right now and working aggressively to make it more stable at the same time. We take it as seriously as if it were paid software even though it's free.

think it was asked before somewhere...

Deanan, is Redcine-X and Rocketcine ready for M-X Sensor footage ?

thx
Rainer

Already enabled. Enjoy it!

Yep, seems to work pretty darn good. Got to play with the Wave panel on REDCINE-X yesterday (thanks, Meryem!). I'll definitely have to get me one, much finer level of control with the Wave or similar control surface.

I've played with the Euphonix MC Color before. It's not built any better and is about the same price as the Wave. I'm not sure which one, if either, are truly better. It would be nice to see support for both interfaces though.

Not sure about the Euphonix MC Color but I don't believe it is supported by other grading apps like Scratch is with the Wave. I've used the Wave in combination with Scratch and Color and although it feels a bit plastic y it is a nice control surface for the money. For my $$, I'd rather have the control surface that is supported on multiple apps not just the one.
