• Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

New REDMAG Pricing

Why are they taking so long with these SSD? That's the question I've been asking RED. Now, the Turbo is out (Thanks to Brook) and not the 32GB's. I would presume the Turbo would take longer than slower cards, correct?

Something fishy is going on here!!!

Nothing fishy at all..you are just completely wrong in your assumption.

K, would you like to elaborate then? Are you saying that Turbo cards are easier than Scarlet SSD to test? Sorry, I'm not the professional here; you are, would you be kind enough to clarify?

Not trying to argue, like to know some insight, if possible.

Being accusatory and then demanding isn't going to get anyone to answer your questions.

As a Scarlet owner, I would love to know a time frame on the 32 gb cards, but you're not helping.

I apologize if I was too accusatory or demanding in these questions. I too would like to get an answer like many Scarlet users here since a lot of owners can't buy expensive RED media. We are saving every penny for a cheaper solution to shoot on our cameras. Please understand us.

I don't think I'm out of line but if I offended Jarred or anyone of the sort here in my comments, I again apologize. Would like to know something; if possible, like we were introduced to these lower cost Scarlet SSD cards back during NAB.

Faster copies = more sleep ;-)

Faster copies = more sleep ;-)

(snip) the faster the card, the faster the offload speeds

Very interested in offload speeds from the RedMags.

It starts with the maximum read rate of the mags, then the internal circuitry of the RedStation, then the bus - USB, eSATA, etc - then of course the max speed of the media being written to.

Let's assume for this discussion that you are writing to a fast RAID at 800MB/sec so that's not the bottleneck.

I am intrigued by the idea that the Red Stations built into the HP Z820 Red Edition might be able to go straight into the PCI bus. However, if eSATA is already faster than the max read speed of the RedMag SSDs then the built in readers are slicker to use, but no faster.

What's the story?

Cheers - #19

Excellent news about the new pricing!!!!

I nominate this for Reduser quote of 2012 Jarred - fell off my chair hahahahaha !!!!

we just ignorant of the process bro. See we presume slower (read:lesser) cards would logically seem
cheaper and faster to build and that turbo cards would require more tuning (read: more time) - but sounds like we learned that the inverse is true :)

Completely wrong - literally roflmao!

Edit because that means with Jim's and yours obsession with high quality you put this particular cards development first (big directors and DP's hello!) before servicing the rest of the line - that's why it's funny
Epic before Scarlet is as Pro as it gets <---- broken thumbs up emoji

The sense of entitlement in some of these posts is just ridiculous... I'm floored, really. Jarred, your response hit the nail on the head. 'Nuff said.

Don't feed the trolls, guys. Check a person's post count before you reply.

If this comment is toward me. I'm quite offended. Regardless of person's post count, I still have a voice and I'm a valuable member here on this forum. Maybe you don't agree as I don't have 1,000 posts like you Lee, but I still have an opinion.

I was asking a question like most do. I don't think I'm out of line. If you read this thread, you'll noticed I'm not the only one that has been asking this same question.

Basically it may be harder to make slower cards work for high compression then faster cards for lower compression. i.e. more work for the camera with a slower card, then less work for the camera on a faster card.

Ye Gods.

Here's one assumption (and 'assume' makes an 'ass' of 'u' and 'me'): you assume that development and testing of the cards started *at exactly the same time*

Here's another: you're neglecting the issue of supply chain ramp-up; the cards obviously use very different SSD modules internally, one has all the bits in place for volume production, the other doesn't - yet.

'Fishy' my arse!

Mike

Thank you. A real informative answer even though it may be untrue. I will let the Fire Chief answer in his words, if available and willing.

Jarred,

is the RedDrive trade-in still available? These new prices plus the trade-in may make it a possibility for a new card.

Not Jarred, but we are still offering the trade-in program for existing RED-DRIVE owners where a credit will be applied at time of REDMAG 1.8" SSD 256GB order invoicing. Please contact your BOMB SQUAD rep for the details.

How does a joyous announcement like lower storage prices devolve into speculation and bickering? Damn, some folks need to get out more.
