  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

New REDMAG Pricing

Kind of crazy to think that you could buy a new Corvette for about the same price as this little box of cards!

But yeah, I'd rather have the cards.

Beautiful setup Ketch. Looks so clean and still compact, that foto should be in a brochure about RED's modular system. :)

Thanks Maik,

need to say that during our pre-production location tests shoots we are doing lots of different set ups, will be posting weekly BTS photo galleries.

LOVE EPIC!!

And so do every one in ROME that sees it... ;)

cool pic ketch.

Thanks Jarred... ;)

Brook and Steve Freebairn of Freehill are actually testing the 512s on a big feature right now.. they sent me this photo of a 12 pack and it is pretty damn sexy.

Pretty cool one you posted yourself here... ;)

Can't wait to have this, since also RED is my favorite color... ;)

Jarred, what's the MB/S upload on the 256GB and what interface is currently faster for offloading?

Frame rates are not a limit of the card.. so its not going to help you get more frame rates. Just less compression at high frame rates.

and of course the faster the card, the faster the offload speeds

So what about the compression ratio on 300 fps? Same difference as in 5K WS? 6:1?

Jeff K,
Are you thinking what I'm thinking?
"If I put one or two of these 512GB Redmags in my Z820..." :-)

Still working on the 32GB cards...

Thanks for the update.

I don't understand why does it take so long for these 32gb to come out? You say "still working" but what testing needs to be done? I thought its lower capacity. Isn't it the same manufacturing but small Gb's?

Do the lower capacities run slower than 64gb?

Any word if the "Scarlet SSD's" are still in development? Also, I own a Scarlet, and I know I didn't buy an EPIC, but is there any chance the Scarlet will eventually do higher than the current frame rates at a higher compression (even in a burst)?

Jarred,

is the RedDrive trade-in still available? These new prices plus the trade-in may make it a possibility for a new card.

DJ, Maybe I missed something, but I thought the ssd's were universal between all Red Cameras.

The Dragon sensor is going change out the boards of the scarlet as well. The idea of higher frame rates for scarlett has been kicked around. No definitive announcements just yet I believe. Here's the thread on the Dragon Sensor

Justin, to clarify:
DJ referred to the 34 Gb cards which apparently will be a bit slower than the rest of the cards. They will match scarlets possibilities in terms of redcode/data rate . That's why they are often mentioned as "Scarlet SSD" because they are meant to offer a less costly solution for scarlet. But other than that, these are the same to the standard RED SSDs.

Dj:
The speed of the fast cards will NOT open up higher fps on any camera. Just open up better redcode for higher fps settings.

The 34 GB are still on track. Just will take a little while. ( read Jarred's posts n this thread)

Hope this helps.

Gavin, these should be coming in future firmware updates as Jarred mentioned. not sure about scarlet though, but it could be similar.

Why are they taking so long with these SSD? That's the question I've been asking RED. Now, the Turbo is out (Thanks to Brook) and not the 32GB's. I would presume the Turbo would take longer than slower cards, correct?

Something fishy is going on here!!!
