A public beta version of Clipfinder 2.1 is now available from my web site

www.daun.ch/software/

Version 2.1 focuses on improved render support and adds the following features

QuickRender function with customisable presets
- Create and save presets for common render tasks and render an entire directory of clips with a single click.
- Use the built-in crop visualisation feature to easily and precisely adjust crop settings, taking into account the clip dimensions and the selected debayer resolution. Set a given aspect ratio by entering it numerically or by dragging the crop rectangle and watching the aspect ratio indicator.
- Let Clipfinder automatically adjust debayer resolution (2K+, 1K+, 0.5K+) in order to achieve matching effective debayer resolution when rendering source material recorded with different resolutions (4K, 3K, 2K).

Automated clip import
- Select a directory as a "watch folder" and Clipfinder will keep scanning the directory and automatically add any clips you copy into the directory to the current document.

Fully automated background rendering
- Set up a watch folder and activate the QuickRender function and Clipfinder will automatically render all clips you add to the watch folder. Rendering will automatically be paused while you play back a clip so as not to slow down playback. This should be perfect for creating rushes on-set.

Near-instant update of clips and thumbnails when reference files are updated in REDAlert
- Adjust clip look settings (exposure, contrast, color temperature, etc.) in REDAlert and press ALT-CMD-A to update the QuickTime reference files. Clipfinder will automatically update its clip and thumbnail displays. Use this with the thumbnail view in Clipfinder to quickly achieve matching looks for a set of clips.

Refresh clip references after directory changes
- If you have saved clip selections and comments in a Clipfinder file and have later moved or copied the clips to a different directory you can now reconnect the document to the clips by selecting "Search for missing clips..." from the menu.

Please do remember that this is a beta version and as such may still have bugs. If you find any problems, please let me know. I will try to fix them as quickly as possible.

If you want to get the most out of Clipfinder, I strongly recommend reading the integrated help pages. It won't take long.

Finally, it is worth mentioning that installing RED QuickTime version 3.5 has greatly increased Clipfinder's stability.

Enjoy

This truly is a killer app for working with RED footage. If anyone hasn't given it a go, please do.

Clipfinder 2.1 doesn't seem to remember the Quickrender presets on my system nor does the quickrender render any clips when I hit start.

Russ,

Render presets need to be saved explicitly. The help pages explain why and how. Let me know if this solves your problem.

As for Clipfinder not rendering, can you send or post a screenshot of the render window about 10 seconds after you have pressed the start button ?

Cheers,
Hans

Hans-Georg, we will test this week and are also hoping that the placeholder from the Help gets some content soon <this space reserved for Erik Widding>

Awesome awesome awesome- thank you for supporting dragging and dropping of clips. Wish we could have it in the other RED apps. :)

Russ,

Can you try the following ?

- select an output directory before rendering (did Clipfinder ask for one when you pressee START ? It should have)
- try with "render selected clips only" unchecked
- try with "create subdirectories" unchecked

Let me know how it goes.
Cheers,
Hans

Hi Hans. It doesn't ask for a directory when I hit start. If I select a directory it also doesn't show up. No render with the boxes unticked either. RR works fine with these settings.

OK...
Try manually entering a path into the output directory field, e.g. "/Users/<yourusername>/Desktop/". Does that work ?

As for the presets, when you create a second preset, do you press the "plus" or "duplicate" button before you enter new settings ?

We'll get to the bottom of this.
Cheers,
Hans

I'm having the exact same issue as Russ. Even if I try to select an output directory it doesn't show up in the text box. Same thing if I try to select a specific RSX file.

Russ, Winzar,

I have trashed my application preferences in order to start from scratch and I can now reproduce the issue. I will post as soon as I have found a solution.

Sorry,
Hans

Clipfinder 2.1.beta 4 available

Clipfinder 2.1.beta 4 available

Russ, Winzar,

Many thanks for your reports. I believe I have identified the problem and fixed it (same cause for all issues reported). There is a new version (2.1 beta 4) available from my website at

http://www.daun.ch

Let me know if this solves your problems.

I am sorry for this.

Regards,
Hans

Hans,

Thank you so much for this wonderful app. I was having the same issues and this appears to have fixed it. It's rendering now. One other issue I'm having is that the thumbnails don't update after I've adjusted them in RA. I've closed down the project and re-opened it and after ALT-CMD-A it still stays the same.

best regards,
jeremy
