  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

New: public beta of Clipfinder 2.1 - the render features you requested

the interface needs to stay stable when is resizedto show the thumbnails, it defaults to full screen every time. he a setting i am missing.

oh my god thanks, thank you, that tyhing was driving me crazy

Can't seem to generate new quicktime ref movies with new LUT applied. For instance, the originals are REC709, REC 709. I changed it to Camera RGB and REC 709, got my one light done and then regenerated the QT ref movies, but in clipfinder and elsewhere they still have the old LUT applied. Thoughts?

Steve,

This is a known "feature" with REDAlert: color and gamma space changes don't carry over into the reference files. They are applied to rendered files, though.

Unfortunately, there's no quick fix for this.

Cheers,
Hans

So, in Red Rushes and Clipfinder, I would have to manually set the color and gamma spaces? Then it should match other settings correct?

I have found a general description of debayering as it applies to RED here
http://www.digitalpraxis.net/red.htm

Basically, debayering creates an intermediate RGB image from the raw R3D files. This intermediate image then gets scaled to your output resolution.
For HD and lower output resolutions you can often achieve faster rendering at little perceptible loss of quality by choosing lower debayer resolutions (e.g. "1/2 (high)" for HD).

In Clipfinder, the effect of the debayer settings on resolution is shown in the crop section in the Render Window: select a debayer setting, then click on the "Full Frame" button to see the effective debayer resolution for the currently selected clip displayed in the "Width" and "Height" fields.

I hope this helps.
Cheers,
Hans

I'm not sure I fully understand your question.

If you have set color and gamma space in REDAlert, than those settings will affect how files are rendered, they just don't show in the reference files (neither do curve settings).

Setting color and/or gamma space in Clipfinder or REDRushes will override the value of these parameters from the RSX files, but will leave other settings from the RSX files intact (if you choose "RSX file" as the look source).

Cheers,
Hans

We just did resolution and lighting tests at Filmakademie Ludwigsburg. While the visible difference between half and full debayer is really very small if you are going from 4K to 2K, you can get erraneous white pixels at very low light levels without a full debayer.

Uli,

I have read your post. Many thanks for your work.
Other than for material recorded at very low light levels, would you agree that a "1/2(high)" debayer should be sufficient for finishing in 1080p ?

Cheers,
Hans

No Render

No Render

Hans-

On a new machine now and it looks like I'm having the same issues some people were having in the beginning. I'm running the beta. I can't seem to get the clips to render when i hit the start button. I've tried deselecting the render selected clips and overwrite existing files check boxes. I tried it with one clip, with several- no luck so far. I've attached a grab of about 10 seconds after hitting go. Any ideas? Cheers,

Tim

Hmmm...

I have tried to reproduce this here, but to no avail.
You have installed the REDAlert package, haven't you ?
Can you crash it again and send me the crash log ?
My e-mail address is in the help pages.
I will look into this immediately.

Cheers,
Hans

Hans, just finished a rather long render that had 60 clips in it, and had some 2K, 3K, and 4K 2:1. My output format was 1080 ProRes HQ 23.98 and I was using full debayer. All of the 3K and 2K files seem to work fine but the 4K files have garbled frames. Any thoughts?

If individual frames are garbled and other frames in the same clip are ok, then I'm afraid there's not much I can do. Clipfinder just kicks off the rendering task by calling REDline once for each clip, the actual rendering is done by REDline.

Sorry,
Hans

men! thank you very much,

i used the settings u suggested and my render was done in an hour as opposed to 6 days.

I love u men.
