New Macpro Hackintosh Build / Guide: Dual Xeon with E5-2680v2 and ASUS Z9PE-D8

Salut Redusers, the following components are perfect to assemble an OSX hackintosh, similar or more powerful as the new Macpro. And the whole thing for only about 3500 Euro. If i need more power, i can buy another 10-core Xeon. But atm. it's alread a beast.

Working:

• CPU v2 Xeon
• Audio
• Ethernet
• USB3
• GTX 770 4GB @ 2x 2560x1440px Shiman
• Sleepmode

Not working:

• Speedstep
• CPU Boost

Components:

CPU: E5-2680v2 10x2,8 Ghz (3,5Ghz turbo)
Mainboard: Asus Z9PE-D8 WS dual Socket 2011 (working USB3 in OSX)
Grafics: GTX 770 4GB from Gigabyte (working)
RAM: 32GB DDR3
Harddrive OSX: 256 GB SSD Samsung Evo
Harddrive Work: 512 GB SSD Samsung Evo
Harddrive Raid: 3x 2TB WD HDD for Raid-0
Power Supply: Seasonic 750W semi passive
Timemachine Backup: 3TB USB 3 HDD Seagate for Timenachine Backup
Bluray / DVD burner: LG

Install 10.9.1:
Buy Mavericks from the appstore. Do a simple install of 10.9.1 and follow these instructions: Unibeast or Chameleon / Vanilla with a normal MAC / Macbook. You got a V2 XEON? Change the mach_kernel of the USB stick and after the installation also on the HDD you installed OSX -> http://www.osx86.net/files/file/3563-109-gm-ivy-bridge-e-kernel/ First to see hidden files (for changing the mach_kernel):

1. Open Finder
2. Open the Utilities folder
3. Open a terminal window
4. Copy and paste the following line in: defaults write com.apple.Finder AppleShowAllFiles YES
5. Press return
6. Now hold ‘alt’ on the keyboard and right click on the Finder icon
7. Click on Relaunch

To change the mach_kernel do the following:
Open the terminal -> type "cp directory/new/mach_kernel directory/old/mach_kernel" -> drag & drop the file from the finder into the terminal! It's quiet simple. If the mach_kernel is greyed out, change the attributes and make it read/write for all users. -> write "cp / space / drag&drop new mach_kernel / space / drag&drop old mach_kernel / Enter". Now you changed the kernel and you wont get a blackscreen anymore.

Installation from USB:
Now you put your stick into your Asus Z9PE and use onboard VGA (dont install a Nvidia card). With -v -x the install should start. Install 10.9.1 on your chosen HDD/SSD. If the install is ready, unplug this drive, plug it as a usb drive (or else) into your mac and change the mach_kernel again! Plug the drive into your new hackintosh. Network should work from the beginning, download Multibeast or Chameleon and install a Bootloader and the kext you need. For the SMbios better use Chameleon wizard and choose: MacPro 5.1



To use my Gigabyte GTX770 4GB i installed the following kext -> AppleAHCIPort and IOPCIFamily kext... Download: http://www.file-upload.net/download-8548608/GTX-770-KEXT.zip.html Then boot with "-v npci=0x2000 dart=0" and if this works for you, enter the flags into the "...boot.plist"

Cool, interested to see the performance you get out of this.

I'm looking at doing something similar at some point. Are you using a Mac Edition video card, or when doing something like this can you get away with a PC card? Interested to know as the price difference is pretty big.

What mods are you doing to the case? Will the motherboard fit in there without alteration?

but it'd be careful Fabian ...
for the kernel now supports 5 gpu. and up to 32 cores ... then maximum core 2x8 + hpt.
If you double 10 core means that you can not use 4 cores.
Perhaps would not start going into kernel panic.
I'm not so sure that the turbo functions on 10.8.5 ... you can try and see how you arrive at geekbenck.
You have to reach at least 28000 with 1 processor with 2 you have to get to about 40,000 .. but I doubt.
For now there is no SMSbios of new Macpro ....
Then one else on imported 10.8.5 the gtx 7xx and titan are more than half of speed ... they suck.

Thats why i only use ONE cpu on ONE socket. In the future there will be the possibility to get more than 16 cores on a hack. Otherwise i will switch to windows

i don't want to wait to get the new black coffee warmer for a 5 digit price... so i decided to assemble a new hack OSX with 10.8.5 and the following components:

First there will be only one Xeon CPU and if i need more power in the near future i have the possibility to put another 10-core onto the board. The Macpro is limited to one 12 core Xeon v2 as maximum. I will post Pics and stuff how i built it, if you're interested. The parts are shipped... can't wait to get them

Hi again, the system is working in 10.9.1 (with a new ivy bridge mach_kernel) but i can't install the Nvidia 770GTX 4GB. Only onboard VGA is working... anyone an idea?

Fabian, that motherboard has 7 PCIe slots. How will they line up with the 4 openings in the case? Have you found a way to use more than 4?

If you use a Corsair watercooler you can use 4 slots. My aircooler is too big, the GTX doesnt fot in lane 1.
