New Macpro Hackintosh Build / Guide: Dual Xeon with E5-2680v2 and ASUS Z9PE-D8

Hi Fabian,

I realize this is an old thread but I was curious how your system is working and I wanted to ask your advice.

Currently I'm on a Hackintosh with a 4930k but considering an upgrade to the 2680v2. I'm on 10.9.5. Did you get all 10 cores and 20 threads working in Mavericks? And I'm curious what your R3D 5k CPU% was at for full debayer real time playback in Davinci Resolve with no cache. That will give me an idea of how much more powerful the new CPU will make my system. With the 4930k at 4.2 I get about 16.5 FPS on full debayer 5K footage no cache...CPU pinned obviously.

Thanks for your time,

jb

Im considering moving to a dual Xeon E5 V3 high end with the latest motherboard design from intel (Asus Z9PE-d8 WS) and would like to heard feedback if people manage to run this beast running on OSX as well...?

Not work haswell xeon v3 on OS X ,kernel is not ready... V2 is the best now in OS X but not more 32 core.

Before buying a used Mac pro 6 core with d700 graphics I toyed with the idea of a haxkintosh for Davinci. People thought it would be a bad idea. Any opinions in general?

No reason to go OSX. Davinci works better on Windows right now anyway with Cuda.

Yup, I have exactly that Mac Pro that you are talking about and with Dragon Footage, RedCine X, Premiere and Davinci all hassle to playback at full res, and sometimes also at half res.

Im running dual e5 xeon v4 in the Z10PE-D16 ws from Asus. 32gram, gtx980ti. Runs real nice, dual cpu's is nice. Dual xeons is nicer. Check the threads on tonysmac and insanelymac if anyone is truly interested, the hackintosh is a personal deal that can be quite rewarding.

is Xenon a must or can it be done with 80-90% of the performance using a i7 overclocked?
