  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

New "Game Changer" Movi Handheld Stabilizer

I'll definitely be buying the 10 and then when the 20 is available that as well.

$5K and you have a deal. $15K. Not so much.

I am confused with the weight of some of your Red cameras. I put my fully functioning Red Epic on the scale 18-200mm Nikon lens and it is under 10 pounds? 9.2 pounds to be precise!

Remember, the LCD can go on the handle not on the gimble drive!

Usually we have the RedMote tethered around our necks and the LCD strapped to a front waist pack with a belt clip Red Brick inside. This is to shoot hand held walking, no gimmick just no coffee stable!

We have to be extremely stealth and improvise in the field. I find shooting 96 fps in 5K stable and if I have to, Warp in post!

We are looking at the new 6x6 Kenyon, but the sound is our problem!

I'm really into this concept. I do think they need to offer a 12, 15, or 20lb version. That M20 needs to come out for sure. You can get an Epic or Scarlet under 10lbs, but most cinema-ish prime lenses are in the 3-6lb arena and people are going to want that option. Adding a zoom or a full FIZ on there adds to it.

Curious to see Vincent's Epic outfitting with it.

The cool thing is, once the rig is set up you can throw it on a jib, use it hand held, RC helicopter, even a steadicam (trust me it will happen) and you're good to go. Commercial productions will definitely have this on every shoot. I would definitely plan to use this with a 2 man crew. Jeez maybe three. 1. Operator, 2. Framer 3. Focus.

hello Kennan. I dont know if you have ever used a Kenyon gyro, so as I say in the kenyon gyro post, try and do quick turns more than 30 d / sec and the gyro will kick you right back, then ... its like someone is kicking you on tyhe shoulder.
Also the system above, I d like to see a one man operation, pulling focus as well and doing pan tilt joyctick at the same time by running. Despite the weight there are many probs in one man operation. So its 2 for control, and one for focus and zoom maybe?
try and syncronise all 3 of them in a move with a big sensor camera . Its choreography and needs to be well practiced at list 2 of them together ( the ff puller does the same job as he usually do wireless) So you also have to calculate either 1-2 motors with cables and a battery 12vdc as well as the motor reciever controller in the pacjkage. Or ... the upcoming meizler. Its not impossible but very restricted and in most cases not a plug and play thing you pull steady shots.
Sure the gyro gimbal works turning it on, but all the rest thats needed?
I think this is a great DSLR style or very light camera tool, that if thinking in going one man operation its kinda ...very difficult to pull.
I can see this being used in certain shots from certain crue that is trained to pull good shots. Renting it and plug and play?? not unless at least the joystick op is a previous jimmy jib, or other kinda trained joystick robotic operator.
Direct drive motors are expensive, ad if custom made even more so.. this takes it to a higher price , all the rest of it though is pretty easy build existing in aerial rc copters and drones for much cheaper.
it does look to work well than other available cheap systems, so its a more sofisticated electronics sensor tuned, but still, I d like to see more to judge, so lets see the gimbal and what it can do.
cause 15k is 15k and for dslr shots?aybe only for bigger productions.
I like the idea though and it does look that works very well for what it is.
regards

This is it here:

Note the little monitor on the handle.

Thank you. Somehow I missed that. Looks like they are using an additional cell to power the camera.

I wonder if the M20 will have a wider camera platform so we can utilize RedVolts. I'll talk to these guys at NAB. A bazillion questions.

Ask them if they are interested in a REDuser Group Buy ;)

not sure the Epic is power on (the led are not on).

The way this thing has blown up the internet today, my bet is we'll start to see a whole lot more of these products within the next few years, and probably for cheaper. Just a hunch.

OK. Having now seen the BTS as well, I am sold. This thing WILL be a game changer. I'm also curious how long before the knock-offs start getting made, and how these guys are going to protect their IP.

Laing engineers are probably already looking at it :)

Exactly what i was thinking. :)
I hope the smaller version holds a basic RED setup....

The smaller version definitely won't support a RED. The current (middle) version supports 10lbs and it's built for DSLRs primarily (cost $15k). It will only work with a very small lens, a very lightweight battery solution and a tiny monitor (not stock) mounted on the handle. The smaller version seems to be built for Go Pros and GH2/3s. The larger version, which apparently will support 20lbs, is likely going to cost much more than a new Epic. It seems to still be in development.
