  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

NEW FF+ Cine Lenses... For DRAGON... In the works...

Ketch,

re-reading Nathaiel's post I am not sure it is all negative. I think that taking on the task of creating the next greatest cinema lens set in the world is HUGE. Everything he states here is sound advice to consider when taking on a project of this magnitude.

Let's not forget, even RED, a pretty major player with decent resources has kinda stopped producing the RRP glass and gotten out of the glass game, even after producing the mini primes for a prototype Scarlet.

No one is crushing your dream here, just helping point out what to look out for.

I'd take this is constructive criticism. But that's just me.

David

David, if you knew his history in his posts, and I have save them al, you will immediately understand why I replied as I did!! If He would have written what He did without the Upper case letters remark I would have told him, you are right in part, but only in part, as He got very wrong what I am doing , well trying to do here, and never stated I intended to better the Master Primes or Leica for that matter, as my intent is clear and is to bring to life what is not here now, a Cine Set of lenses to cover pass Full Frame.

And because I know you personally and respect you very much, I ask you to stay out of defending people like him David!! And if you are to read all that I have saved, then you'll be clear of his purpose, and I will not have that in my one thread, I stay out of anything He posts, and so should He form mines, if it is only to come and insult. Either way, from now on I'll just have any of his posts that I find offensive, simply deleted, and will no longer deserve him of an answer. If Nathaniel had wrote his opinion differently there would have been no problem, as it is in deed a serious task at hand, but I AM WASTING NO ONE ELSES" MONEY, plus the continued remarks.

And I take as a serious INSULT to my intelligence and actions, and I'll not stand for that kind of talk, form any one, and especially from someone whit a history of offensive and negative posts as his.

I once, was almost to leave this Forum, because of a hand full of determined little Negative disrespectful Fe&%^$rs, (which btw all but just him have stopped) but NOW I simply make sure to not let any one disrespect me, and I am here to stay and will continue to share any crazy dream or adventure, for those that wish to read and reply cordially they can, no one has to agree with me and with what I do or how I go about it, they just need to voice their opinions RESPECTFULLY, they are not interacting with a child here, but a grown MAN, that gives and demands respect!!

I have tired that few people in this great community always try to steer the pot in the wrong direction!! So David, again, please just voice you very VALUED opinion but don't try to excuse what is not to be excused.

But now back to Lenses... REALLY...

I am reinventing nothing, just taking what is already there and create something different with it, as simple as that, of course it will bare my ideas, my design, to incorporate what I have come to want in the 30 years of using just about any and every lens known to man, and I hope that I will see this project come to a conclusion with a new Set of lenses delivered to those that want one.

Does not matter what others or even RED did or did not, I am not doing this together with an other million things to do with camera, which is RED priority number one form start, I am doing this with companies that only do manufacture Lenses, and some of them very much welcome my tough and I just hope that one of them takes this opportunity to create something new with what is already there, just put together in a different, very different type of package, in both built and design, yet no too far different form what is already seen in all Cine lenses... ;)

Ahhhh...

i did not know all the back story. I just was taking everything at face value.

Now it makes more sense. I don't really ever see you get upset like this in the forums.

Ill stay out of it.

David

I never get upset because I let it pas, but after what I have been thru this past YEAR, I have absolutely zero tolerance for such remarks, and I will not longer stand for them.

This is a NEW chapter (most likely my last) and I can promise you David, that I will not be effected not let any one put me or my projects down...

I am a freight F&%^$ Train, full speed ahed, and this time I rely to no one but myself to get me were I need to be, so any one that wishes to come onboard, great, all else they will be either on the side station or under the TRAIN... ;)

Of course Patrick,

even os this will not really be a group buy, but a new set of Cine Lenses available for sale globally once and if I succeed in this project.

Of course, goes without saying that the first 100 Sets will be sold here on Reduser, and will have a Special "First 100 Set" price... ;)

Ketch, Im sorry you feel that way. You ask why I bother to read your posts? It's because I enjoy them and cant wait to see what claim comes next ! I have nothing against you personally or professionally, but this is an open forum. Or is this just a forum to agree with everything you say? and beckon you with compliments ? I voiced my opinion respectfully and with accuracy. Unfortunately, I have been conditioned to many posts where you made ridiculous claims that were stated as fact, not dreams. And then all the people believed what you said, or at least I did at first. But now its like the story of the boy who cried wolf. You have a loyal group of followers and they have a right to believe in you. I only wish you success but there comes a point when enough is enough. And if you are successful with this latest endeavor, I will be the first person to apologize to you openly in this forum and tell everybody that i was wrong.

Nathaniel,

I felt that way because of your past posts, but I am very pleased to read the above, and for that no apologies needed, I completely not only understand were you come form, but also give you the right to doubt, especially because as you said, my past bold claims, when up in smoke... For now at list.

My biggest fault is to have shared my dreams with such passion, even when to me they were already facts, since wall was in place, but one last signature, yet here we are, were I had to start an other thread apologizing for what I have said which did not came to pass, such is Life, I learned my lesson the very hard way, and had a very bad draw back in my health because of it, placed my self in a cave, sold all my gear and so on...

But now I am writing a new chapter, coming back to LA to shoot my FIRST short Film, to introduce my FIRST Motion Picture, and bring on any of those Dreams left to sleep, this one is one of them.

I am not claiming that I am to best Master Primes, which I consider the World's best Cine lenses, as I sad despite the Leica Summilux C. Primes been capable of heir resolution resolve, and I am in talks with Zeiss too, this is not something I my self am doing form scratch, this is something that has been in the works for years, and there are several prototypes in place kept extremely hash hash, and on top of it they are Lens Manufacturer companies that I am in contact with that they too have been at it for many years with substantial investment already spent, and have prototypes as well, and they are offering me to join in and alter the design and specs at will, in order to get what I think will be the best NEW set of Large IMage circle Cine Prime, fit for the Dragon and beyond.

But what I have said os that it is my intention to bring to life a Mini Master Prime like Cine Lens set, by meaning exactly that, looking on to the Master Primes as an example of Build Quality and technical specifications, never meant to suggest make them better, yet I do believe that such is possible, and striving to achieve better then the best, is no t a bad thing, is avery good thing any ways, one should always inspire to Best even the best or there is no challenge and not worth trying other wise, then the accomplishments will be measured by the end user ti self and the results.

Any ways...

I appreciate this post, and I thank you for it, and in return I apologies to you if I was too harsh in my reply in response to yours, I am in a state of mind were I am coming out of a very delicate time, and have built a barrier made of a a virtual Army the size of which (if could be seen) no one would have ever seen before, and for this I was quick to decent my name, but let's go past this, and return to be fellow Reduser which are interested in creating great images and serve a community with insightful and inspiring tough and when back in NY (soon) we'll shake ends laughing at this type of silly arguments we had in here...

Life is way too F&^%$ing short to be let anything negative in our way, and friends are way too F&^%$ing hard to come by, I will never let anything get in the way of the chance to make a new friend... ;)

And btw, even so I haven't commented in your recent treads, I did look at them and enjoy them, as you do have very nice work to speak for you, and I do enjoy seen it.

Hey Ketch,

I just remembered seeing this really great TED talk a few years back. I'm a two time TED speaker and I really appreciate the wisdom in these talks.

This one is by Derek Sivers, the man who invented CD baby for independent music artists and who has gone on to many other successes.

It's not for everybody, but his take on goal setting is very interesting.

David

David did you double posted the link to make a double point??... ;)

Even so I don't agree, not even partially, as motivation was absolutely never an issue for me and my goals, and never will be, I do NOW agree that some Goals should be kept to one self, but not all...

I should have kept my Megaproject goal to myself for sure, even so was no longer a goal but a work in process, with legal paperwork already in place... ;)

But on the other end certainly not the goal of making my short film, or movie, or this one in particular as well which needs the direct participation of my community and people around me, which any of them at any time can bring something to it, and while some goals should also be kept to one self in order to keep secrecy, I almost entirely disagree to what He said, and on the scale of all TED talks I listen to , this will hit the very bottom of it... ;)

Some people are lazy by nature, and will take any opportunity to hit the couch instead of the road, while others stay motivated and no matter the difficulties will always continue on.

But I do see what He means, and that premature gratification to one's goal yet to be reached, can be a tragic path to not filling the need to seek further gratification by actually reaching their goal, yet of course this has never been and never will be my case... ;)

No, Ketch. I always try to post a link for ipad users and embed the movie for web browser. I'll fix it.

I find a lot of TED talks interesting but I wouldn't rank this one dead last, he is just presenting some alternate research that maybe we have not heard about. That is the nice thing about the TED talks, they tend to spark ideas and discussion, like Reduser!

Editing my other post now.

The most important thing really is having goals and sharing goals with the people you feel most comfortable with. Attaining them is the blood and sweat part, accomplishing them is often a fleeting moment.

David

PS: figured it out, you can not embed ted talks on Reduser... :) That is why it showed up as a double link.

Cool, I just don't see why this should be that hard. It seems to me that all they need to do is go into the firmware of a high end FF/medium zoom, and adjust the zoom when someone focuses to remove the breathing. Though it could be a bit pricey, some of the medium format zooms are super geometrically clean and have a real nice bokeh. I think it's more of a mindset thing why they don't make FF/Medium cinema lenses that are fairly inexpensive ... rather then the actual technology(and btw I have a degree in physics and computers science, with a background in sensor theory - so i don't think your asking to much here). I like how your pushing this, since it's just a head thing, not a technology thing that is preventing this.

Ha ha, that is why, but you can't and you figured it out... ;)

Agree, TED has certainly a fantastic series of great Talks, yet despite what research might show I just completely disagree with it, as it is my strong believe that if you truly want something and are truly passionate about it, there will be no stopping you, and certainly no stopping you just because you have been gratified by what others have or might have positively replied in response of you sharing your goal, and in my case has been some mixed filling about it, so I should have best served my self by saying nothing, as I only embarrassed myself to this community upon the dissolution of the partners involved (which btw, was my doing), the only place were I shared btw, and yet in time, I am most confident it will be rectified, because my dreams are still here and so my goals, and surely will never let them die, might put them to sleep for awhile to be awaken at the proper time, but never let go of, despite of what might have happened by sharing such goals.

Any ways, I always look forward the TED talks, and whom knows, one of this days I could be one of them giving the Talk... ;)

good words here Patrick, and that is exactly why I am doing this, and because no one has done it does not means it can not be done or should not be done, I know what I want as a tool to shoot my projects, and I know how to get it made, for this I strive to get this done.

MF lenses are also in to the consideration and especially the Telephoto, but problem is that even the longest of telephotos becomes a standard telephoto when applied to 35mm sensors, but truth is that I am not worried at the Super Telephoto range as both Canon and Nikon have some fantastic ones, just that they could be nearing the 20K each once completely Cine modded to be made part of such a set I look to build, yet there will be like nothing else ever presented to the film industry as far as I am concerned, and could be very well received, as some is already doing with long range Zooms.

By next month I should already have some news of were this we'll be headed, August now, and any one and every one on this side of the world is Vacationing, and actually abut to go my self for the first time in so many years I don't even remember, so to come back fresh in September with a nice tan to sport... ;)

Ketch,

All I want is for you and the core group of redusers, to succeed in anything and everything they do.

There are many paths and I sincerely hope we all get to the "there" that makes each one of us happy.

That would make me really happy.

David

I might be wrong but before we know it we will all start to look for lenses like these instead of those highspeed small projection lenses that we are longing for today... http://www.ebay.com/itm/Mamiya-RB67...ur-Lenses-50-65-90-180-and-More-/221263892674

When sensor get bigger and iso's higher old hassellblad medium format lenses will be high in demand. Today you can buy them for a couple of hundred bucks each on ebay and get a nostalgic camera included in the deal.

So I think it's vice to think far beyond FF as that's pretty much here all ready. But when we get around the next corner I think things will be a lot bigger and FF lenses will then be just as unpopular as 16mm lenses :)

So Ketch if you are going into lens fabrication I would sugest starting with the medium format and work out whats available and what is good to rehouse etc.

Agreed. But that would be more expensive...maybe a lot more.

MF lenses are great lenses, with a large Image Circle, but what I am looking to bring are Truly Professional Cine Lenses with a larger Image circle, not still glass, or re-housed still glass, they must be Cine Glass all the way.

The accomplishment at hand here is to bring a full set of them with some additions, and make them truly unique, yet retain the Cine lenses standards as to allow for them to be used in any size production, and situation and or condition.

Ketch, one word:

Sigma!

If they could simply tweak their 35 1.4 / 50 1.4 / 85 1.4 lenses (probably all a T1.5)...
They only have to correct optically the breathing and color matching, then the mechanical problems like image-shift and focus-shift.
And obviously build a GORGEOUS metal barrel with steel or titanium PL mount.
I also think they are working on a 24 1.4 and probably on a 135 2 or 1.8.

I think they could sell theese for under 2K each and they would sell like crazy...

Zunow is also coming out with Full Frame Cine Lenses, and with a 25, 35, 50 and 85 Super Speed...all for 4K each.

I think the target price should be 5k max per lens, for 10k each I don't think there is a market for 100+ sets...

Sigma could be a good way to go for the Glass, nothing else, but it would imply a lot of work to clear out only but the best of them, as they have always been inconsistent in their quality.

5K will not do it, as there are already lenses in that range, such as the Canon Cine Primes, and the Zeiss Compact Cine Primes, what I am to do here is a much higher quality build, not only beautiful to look at, but of extensive work done to it Barrels wise, focus markings, size, matching all , and make sure that they fit in perfectly to each an other, when extracting and or mounting the lens with Focus gear etc.

They can not be 5k, but I will make sure that they will well below 10k... ;)

Anyone who sees this and claims lenses are too expensive would need a reality check. It so obvious by this process video how much work, care, equipment, time and labour goes into creating cinema glass. You can see the money right there on the screen. That is exactly where the cost is.
