  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

New Fast Prime Set WOW

We have politely asked that no employee from Arri, Sony, Panasonic, Vision Research, Silicon Imaging or any other camera manufacture attend RED Day. This is a closed event with every person attending registered. We will be happy to open up all we are doing to our competitors at NAB in April as we have always done. I fully expect every company to respect our request.

Sanjin... when you have your own event you can invite anyone you want. :-)

Jim

Thanks Jim,

and totally agree with that.

Is this true?

No, the exact opposite actually. A few posts after my questions this was answered:

The focus marks you can see in the pic are just a window on the material.
The focus rotation is almost 360 degrees.
And the focus mark is actually pretty small, I think the camera in my iPhone wasn't too sharp and is deceiving. Also remember these are small to begin with. Not much larger than a Super Speed.

I think that Michael Bravin has a full right to attend the next RED Event just because he is CML member (sponsor) and as one of early RED1 reservation holders/owners..

Possibly all True Sanjn, but i of course will politely comply with the hosts request, since while I can honestly say that technically I do not work for Sony, Arri, Panasonic, Vison Research, Canon, Nikon, Moviecam or Beaulieu on the day, I can wait till Jim wants to show me himself. :lipsrsealed:
I will be quite sad because I am a technology maniac AND I cut my Hawaii vacation short in anticipation, but I understand.

In seclusion and preparation high above Maui... in sublime Kula.

If I was more skilled at photoshop I would be creating a Mitch/Michael frankenstein monster hybrid.
IT'S ALIVE!

I don't think that's possible as only one of them could be the EXCLUSIVE, AUTHORIZED, WORLD-WIDE, SOLE-DISTRIBUTOR of re-animated life.

Maybe Sanjin can posts some links to old German castles where this sort of diabolical experimentation is rumored to be happening ...

Dr. Frederick Frankenstein: "Love is the only thing that can save this poor creature, and I am going to convince him that he is loved even at the cost of my own life. No matter what you hear in there, no matter how cruelly I beg you, no matter how terribly I may scream, do not open this door or you will undo everything I have worked for. Do you understand? Do not open this door."
Inga: "Yes, Doctor."
Igor: "Nice working with ya."
[Dr. Frederick Frankenstein goes into the room with The Monster. The Monster wakes up]
Dr. Frederick Frankenstein: "Let me out. Let me out of here. Get me the hell out of here. What's the matter with you people? I was joking! Don't you know a joke when you hear one? HA-HA-HA-HA. Jesus Christ, get me out of here! Open this goddamn door or I'll kick your rotten heads in! Mommy!"

Marker Karahadian (late of Plus8 Digital and then Panavision) is now at BandPro.

But I don't think I can have the same fun with Marker as I did with Michael. ;-)

I'll be having different fun with Michael soon enough, and no, it is not nearly as sick & wrong as that sounds! If you haven't figured it out already then y'all will know soon enough, for those that care about these things.

While Marker has of course joined the Band Pro team, I'd think that Red User's very own Randy Wedick will most likely be the ideal spokesperson for the heretofore mysteriously unamed prime lenses from Band Pro.

Mitch, I cannot express my horror at what you have revealed... publicly... here... I thought we agreed to wait until the test results came
back.:lipsrsealed:
And Mitch, as far as Marker Karahadian goes, he's a great guy and a good friend but you'll have to have your own fun with him.

Why Mitch of course, and there'll be a YouTube video etc.

Im on holiday for heaven's sake.

I reveal nothing that is not revealed by you in your own way, dude.

For those that would know, they already know. For those that don't, they'll get it in their own due time.

I'm shocked, shocked, to see that gambling is happening in this establishment.
Your winnings, sir.

Aloha!

Dr. Frederick Frankenstein, such a good idea...

But at the moment I'm doing research about Fritz Lang, The Testament of Dr. Mabuse and Metropolis, Vienna, Berlin and LA.

Abel Cine Tech is currently testing the Phantom v10,000,000. It records at such a high frame rate that it actually goes back in time, allowing for the reanimation of dead tissue. Our Digital Cinema modifications is called Project Lovecraft and Director Stuart Gordon is currently completing the promotional film starring Barbara Crampton. Special Apperance by Michael Bravin as the disembodied head (sorry, I had to let out the secret!).

Available exclusively from Abel Cine Tech.

Around and around and around it goes...where will they all stop, no-one knows (well- mostly no one.)

Bonus- Looks like I can attend RED Day no problem!!!

Which brings us to the main question, Mitch: what glass was used on the film?

1. Michael Primes as advertised on Red User
2. RPP build 10,000,000,000,000.1 Beta Tattoo Edition with all modular floating unobtainium radical aspheric elements
3. Pinhole for the specific "look"

I think we can all stop calling these mystery primes. We know who is behind them and the company making them, so I think this whole thread sizzled out a long time ago.

Yay, yet another set of primes. I'm satisfied with the Cookie S4's (I like the look of them best), the new Panchro's (for the budget minded), Arri Master Primes (when I need the sharpest lenses available), Ultra primes, Red Pro Primes (primes for the people). The best is already available today.

Mystery solved.

Okay, in light of this fact: Since this event is hosted by Neil Smith, who has said he's working directly with Arri Engineers, how then is the Jan event different from the Feb one? I'm trying to determine which event to attend. I know there's a CML invite only portion in Jan. I understood that to be early in the day. (Yes, I've searched.) Do we still get a sneak peek at Epic and Scarlet at Neil's event? Or should we skip that one? Anyone?

Word is they are Leica...

CW Sonderoptic is a subsidiary of Leica and the domain name cw-sonderoptic.de is registered to Rainer Schnabel and he works for Leica...

I guess everybody knows this already?

Nick.

CW Sonderoptic is a 100% subsidiary of the owner of Leica Camera AG. It propably has something to do with the entirely different distribution process (it wouldn't make much sense to sell cine-lenses in Leica shops).

But these lenses are manufactured by Leica Camera AG in Solms, they have 160 years experience (including their own >3 year training for mechanics, optics and mechatronics - msot production people in Germany are not trained-on-the-job, they're specalists) in optical design & manufacturing and are capable of very complex designs (Zeiss is the other one) - this knowledge has never been outsourced (even Leitz Canada - today ELCAN - which designed and manufactured the Panavision Primos - never made these designs) and was never achieved by many optical companies (that includes most optical brands trying to sell "revolutionary" cine-lenses for RED-users).

Dr. Kaufmann insources former Leitz-divisions that were outsourced over the past decades and relocates them at the Leitz Park in Wetzlar - Leica Camera AG is going to follow and Weller-Feinwerktechnik (they manufacture the mechanical parts) is alreay operating there. Viaoptic is only manufacturing plastic-mold-lenses. Delicate technology for many applications, but not for high-performance-lenses, yet.
