While we finish postproduction on Engagement, we shot a 4 minute shortfilm for the dvxuser Time film fest. We were so lucky to get DQ again. XD

Shot almost completely with a Master Prime 40mm, wide open at T1.3. Build 15. Only a couple kinos where used to light the room.

Again, the grading was done to mimic film as much as possible. Color correction was done in our Scratch room, and later it was sent to AE for some compositing, such as a grain filter for the highlights (to compensate the noise in the shadows), and some black diffusion (both filters by Magic Bullet v.2).

We´ve printed the short to film (scope), and i have to say, film projection clearly looses some resolution compared to a digital projection.

That clip is just beautiful Mac.
I love those master primes wide open. Hell for the focus puller but
the nicest picture you can get.
It looks like you have been busy lately

Keep on rocking

beautiful! :) To be honest, I actually really like the subtle highlight grain. Excellent piece, Mac.

Well,.. obviously, the fact that someone was filming us is the second thing I didn't know.

:)

Beautiful, really filmic.

Some comments...

Some comments...

Hey Mac...

Let me say at the beginning that Ive admired Your stuff from the beginning
and I have seen most of it. But after watching this I have some comments as to how you tell a story because this piece just wasnt up to standard..
Dont get me wrong, the esthetic side of the piece is impeccable but
unfortunately its also "flat".. Meaning that the way to tell this story about this girl stays sensual and sensual only throughout the whole piece.. Meanwhile there is a change in the girl and at the end is she is psychologically shattered, therefore the form should be different from the beggining(could be more obvious or more subtle, whatever your choice, but DIFFERENT)

But I have a more importat point to make.. For me the conclusion is not
enough.. So, he used her, but so what? how did it change her? we dont see that.. And films are of course about human change.. So maybe another scene? or something very subtle which points toward this break inside her which tells us this was a turning point in her life and she will never be the same towards people after this.. Thats human drama and then you as the author also making a point/statement.. As it is now, the film is simply lacking a message(at least not one which has a moral conclusion).. Maybe I am too hard on a simple short film/project you were doing very quickly and maybe all of this is already very obvious to you:)

Thats my small comments.. its not meant to batter you personally or your work but as a director I have my strong point of view and I love your work up to point that I wouldnt mind working with you in the future..:)

all the best

I like the fact that this film might get you into the very situation it's about.

Women will be diving into you pants when they discover how sensitive and "in tune" you are with them.

I am thinking at the festival bar, after the screening... that might be a good time to pounce :-)

...Looks like RED could be a fine camera for shooting porn after all. :)

OK, seriously, nice lighting. I have to say that there was one fast, vertical camera move that was jarring.

The look is very nice, nothing more to say about that. You didn't ask for feedback about the script so I won't make any, but if you wanted such comments I could give some.

please, can u imagine all the 4k amateur porn thats out there already? what else is there to film between gigs...

Mac, I think the short looks great.
How does one produce such low light images without generating noise?
I have made a few exercises and there must be something I am doing wrong because I always tend to see noise in the shadows. Can someone tell me how to produce images on red without noise?
Is it on camera?
Is it because I still have the build 15?
Does it depend on post processing?
Does it depend on the settings in redalert redcine?
I feel a little disappointed, I have tried very different settings and I always get noise in the shadows.
Thanks.

Hi guys, thanks for the nice comments.

About story, well, i´d like to think that he is not such a bad guy, i´d like to think he was thinking: "Hey, why didn´t this girl tell me before? I feel a bit betrayed. Goodbye."
