  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Roberto Schaefer...

the next bond should be shot with red #007!

RAW meat for the colorist

RAW meat for the colorist

What is so exciting to me about quotes like Roberto's is that top DI talent is starting to dig deeper into the rich data set the RedOne delivers, even in its compressed RedCode state. The ability of Red footy to be graded to visually match a modern Kodak negative stock under anything but extreme lighting conditions or heavy overexposure is more than a little impressive. Working in RAW color space is a tremendous advantage that, IMHO, is just beginning to be exploited.

It is my sincere hope that once the post community really wraps their heads around what the Rebellion offers, more of them will tout the Red system rather than the trepidation I see far too often these days. The good news is that I keep running into more and more post facilities that "get" the Red pipeline all the time :weight_lift:

Viva Build 16!

Roberto has stated that the Dalsa shots were done a couple of months before the RED tests.

I hate to be pedantic (no, really...) but what he actually stated was that he shot some D20 stuff a couple of months before the RED tests. I believe the Dalsa stuff wasn't shot till much later, and was supervised by David Stump.

You could be right... I'm easily confused.

...and it was done well before build 16...

It is now so much easier to get better DR from the RED now.

Mark and I hallucinating or does your Red have RED written in a larger font than mine?

what lens is that

That must be the Red 50-150. Must . . . . have . . . . that . . . lens . . . . can't . . . wait . . . . much . . . . longer . . . . . .

Hi,

They needed to sync the shutter of 8 cameras. AFAIK that is still not possible on build 16. Hopefully uncompressed will be an option soon for those with the money to pay for it.

Stephen

Anyway congrats, good for red, good for me!

Hi,

No they need shutter sync, not the same as genlock. AFAIK the REDONE does not yet provide a working shutter pulse.

Stephen

manual, page 26:

Shutter Menu
Adjustments
may be made to a preset shutter speed by the RELATIVE and SYNCRO parameters.

Genlock: permits Shutter phase (scan start time) to be referenced to an external Tri-Level
Sync genlock signal. For 3D and multi-camera applications this permits the precise scan timing
and phase relationship of two or more cameras to be matched.

For 3D we sync the RED shutter, and i recommend doing so for most multicamera VFX work as principle.

I dont remember if that was alreay working on our shots in september/october 2007 however.
We rented the cameras back then and had other main interests than syncing them.

Hi,

Are you saying genlock can be used for syncing the shutter at any speed between 1 - 120.

Best,

Stephen
