  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

New Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K

You have a smart friend.

Thanks!

I was being facetious of course, but the power consumption is a bit of a problem for a cam that is positioned as "small", especially so on the 6k. Perhaps it can be improved with a firmware update.

Of course you can festoon it with cables and rigging etc, but then you kind of get into the Mac Pro Trashcan problem. The small unit ends up having so much stuff hanging off of it to defeat the point of it being small.

It's a power full piece of equipment, how many other camera's on the market can you name that shoot 6k RAW and are smaller (with all the necessary equipment to run it) than the BMPCC6K.

When you want a small BMD camera get the https://images.blackmagicdesign.com/images/products/blackmagicmicrostudiocamera4k/techspecs/physical-specifications/blackmagic-micro-studio-camera-4k-imperial@2x.jpg?_v=1545020208

Yes, and Red improved significantly on the quality of their cameras since then. BM is relatively young in the camera industry so I'm hoping BM does the same.

Sorry to have sidelined the thread, now maybe everyone can go back to discussing the perceived pros/cons of this camera.

God, what a whiner. Seriously.

I own two RED Scarlet-W cameras. I also own an ARRI Alexa.

I also own four (4) pocket 4Ks and just bought two (2) pocket 6ks which arrived today.

My pocket 4k camera’s have made more profit for me since September 2018 than all my other cameras combined over 3 years. 10 months of $10,000 in cameras made more money than $100,000 cameras in 42 months.

I literally am printing money. Our commercial customers love being able to view dailies on their $1000 laptops instead of a $8000 Puget workstation. They sign up more work right away.

Yep, nobody has EF(-S) lenses and nobody uses EF lenses, so second hand or rental also isn't an option.
How could BMD be so stupid, all indie's and starters use PL-mount(cheapest lenses available) or RF mount (most deliverd lens mount since the nineties have a RF mount).

EF cineglass is also no existing.

Nobody with some commen sense will buy this camera, the glass optical qualitie is not important, the mount is what counts.

I can't tell if you're being sarcastic. I realllllllly hope you are, or this is nonsensical.

I have ignored previous sh*&%postings to say it's about to be a great time to potentially buy new gear.

Komodo
BMP6K
GH6
A7s3

I'm really excited to see how companies show their cards on the table.

We are definitely in a new generation of compact cameras, and I think a lot of what's best is going to be due to personal preference.

Where did you get the Pocket 6Ks?

You can already get excellent results and professional quality cinematic imagery on compact cameras like GH5, GH5S, S1, T3, E2 etc today. That level has already been reached with last generation of sensors and expansion of 10 bit 4:2:2 minimum into compact segment.

Something "better" is always around the corner and often prevents the appreciation of what is already here.

If they can somehow squeeze another 10fps@6K to get it to 60fps/16:9 with a firmware update, this thing will be a sales beast. I can think of many market segments that would shift to using it over clunky camcorder-type bodies, if that happened.

60 fps at 5.7k.BRAW will give you a perfect de-bayer for 4k-DCI output (RGB).

The more pixels you have, the higher the rolling shutter.

Are you planning to shoot Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk part 2 on a budget?

No. But in my field of work 120fps and lightweight is critical. The lighter and less power hungry cameras get the better! I shoot a lot of stuff in the high alpine.
