  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Spent the past four hours comparing it to Resolve's native NR and I really like it so far. It's significantly better than Resolve's NR, in my opinion. Allowed up to 5 frames for Temporal Reduction. Still a little buggy though.

Also, best part is that I can forego the Full Version and stay in Lite which was the only reason I'd have ever used my full version... rarely do I deliver 5K so I can just switch to the Full Version when needed...

Speaking of which, I haven't had any issues running both Full and Lite on one machine... anyone else?

Thanks for heads up Justin.

Having these plugins with Resolve has been really fantastic. Look forward to seeing more third party implementation.

I hate to rain on everyone's parade, but just how many Titan GPUs does one needs in order to achieve real time performance with all this stuff? In my opinion, until there is a proper implementation of disk caching in Resolve, all this third party goodness is wasted on mostly amateur users working in non supervised sessions, where real time performance doesn't really matter. My set up with a GTX 570 and 2 GTX 680s in Cubix enclosure adding just a single OFX plugin, like "silver bleach bypass" deteriorates playback performance to the point of not being able to do real time playback. And i'm not even talking about the upcoming GPU debayer, Neat Video NR, Flow motion and other good stuff added on top.

Can we see some sample footage put together? Before and after? Thanks in advance if anyone can share why Neat Video is worth buying.

Does it work for Adobe Premiere, AE and Speed Grade?

Neat Video really can be a life saver when you really need to push your footage in post. which luckily is not often.

i certainly haven't.

noise reduction is something i'm okay with not monitoring in realtime - although of course i always love better/faster stuff - it's just something i check a few frames and then let it go to render... but i try to be content with whatever situation i've got and make the best of it. as a general rule i think it's preferable to be able to preview in realtime your final product in similar conditions to the viewing experience.

of course it's different when you have clients coming in for a 'session' and when you've got machinery for heavy lifting. duh... (:

How much is neat video? Do you pay once or per year?

I have used Neat Video extensively and it beats everything else that I have tried. I have used both Neat Video and Neat Image (for Photoshop). Some of the benefits it has:
- extremely good noise reduction
- very good reduction of compression artifacts, can really improve 5D footage
- can increase the bit depth (yes the real bit depth) by creating smoother gradients. I use this on 8 bit material like 5D. This I do in After Effects so be sure to pump up the bit depth to 16 bit before going
- The best tools for viewing the results, its very handy to to view in luminance mode
- the best sharpening that I have ever seen. Extremely good since you can sharpen both smaller and larger details independently
- It's also great that it supports multiple GPUs both Cuda/OpenCL and you can easily benchmark it as well. Its very performance heavy so it can really chug away on your media. I haven't used it much on 5K media yet, not completely sure how to deal with the processing cost and what format I should save in.

You pay once and then upgrade costs, but not always.

Buying depends a lot on what you need it for. Its a 100 dollars per program. You can buy a bundle which I think is 400 dollars and then it works on both pc and mac in every program. Myself I would want it in mainly FPCX and After Effects, but would be nice to have it in Davinci as well.

I have done a lot of tests a year ago and I got very good results with the noise reduction in NR. Biggest issue is the speed. I haven't tried with several titans but on 2k material it takes about 1 second per frame with a quad core. I don't think any hardware can run Neat Video in realtime, but I'm not sure you would need to.
Lots faster with more graphics card I'm sure. I don't have the full version of Davinci so can't compare but judging by the amount of sliders it doesn't look so promising.

I'm planning to look into noise reduction a bit deeper again, but erhm, after I got moved to our Epic from a 5D I almost don't have any noise so I have not bothered. I only have one shot of a colibri in 220fps in the jungle that is noise, the rest are so clean :) I would mostly use Neat Video to sharpen images right now actually since its so good in that.

Nice, did not know it was good for sharpening to. Or atleast it was good at it. Will get one for davinci or perhaps a premiere version. Is the sharpening realtime on a or for you?

The 220fps shot was at 2k? That's not noise, it's compression artifacts.

Can you share the before and after?

Has premiere implemented RCX's Alchemy or sharping?

Wow, only 50 USD for Premiere Pro?

Does NeatVideo essentially lower the noise floor so I can push into blacks harder?
