  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

NAB13- RED MOTION MOUNT

yeah this one is a real game changer. People will talk about the days they used to have to put glass in front of the lens and a heavy swing away matte box.

Wonderful News

Wonderful News

Thanks so much for such great news Mr. Jarred & Red Team!
Wait!!! Can I get it earlier? Hehehe, can't wait to use it...

You'll still use the Mate Box, even if and when this mount should provide all the ND blocking you should need, as light blocking and light shading are two different things entirely, and don't forget the 138mm Circular Polarizer, which I use almost 100% of the times day or night.

So forgive me if its already been covered...(on a job and can't read everything....) but is this mount only in PL? Or will the various other "flavors" be covered? an EOS version would be mighty good for those light kit travel jobs.

This is huge - what about InfraRed pollution?

We have built in some IRcut into the mount glass and since this is behind the lens, you are welcome to use a hot mirror in the front as needed in extremely high IR situations.

Like the Tessive filter, but behind the lens? Awesome! I actually emailed them to ask them to make that!

If RED has created a global shutter variant that mimics what the Tessive does in creating a sine wave shutter function I am gobsmacked.

Been pondering about that exact notion ever since Tessive came out.

If this is it, hats off for pulling that off.

Did not see this one coming!

Very cool.

Like magic motion right in the mount.

Consider yourself Gobsmacked. There is some light loss with the Electronic ND.. when it is off it is not completely off as there is still a piece of glass there. Thats why we made it a mount... and completely integrated.... so you can take it off if you need to shoot in the dark and cant afford the light loss ( about a stop and change )

In that case, hats off guys and gals.

Interested for checking out the look of its motion blur.

How does it cope with strobes?

I seem to remember the Tessive did soften the hard line across the frame during a strobe partial illumination, but because the sensor is still scanned top to bottom, rather than exposed and read out all at once, there was still some rolling shutter characteristic.

This is an important one.

The RED MOTION mount not only incorporates an integrated 8x Electronic ND filter in adjustable 1/100 stop granularity, but also overtakes the sensors timing to give you a true global shutter. All integrated and controlled by the camera UI. Eliminates Shutter Judder and defeats aliasing.

You really need to come by the booth and see this one working.

$4500. Shipping Fall.

This looks like my variable ND filter for lattitude and rolling shutter proposal of 2004. I saw a high speed electronic shutter at b&h and realised what Is could use it for. But maybe Im wrong.

heh heh. Funny stuff. I actually first saw this (similar) technology in a welding mask way back when we first stated. The mask automatically went dark when it sensed light by a low voltage current and a light sensor.. The light bulb literally went off and we have been searching for a solution ever since.. and finally found it.

very nice stuff (been waiting for ND's without Matte-Box filters for ages!); but how do I get lenses with different mounts mounted on this?

thx :)

Jarred, that brings to mind a much more radical welding mask which recently caught my interest:
