NAB Show Rumors

I've seen what Vince is working on and what the "thing" is. I've held it and messed about with it and I can honestly concur with him that it's a mind blower.
The price point vs ability of this new "thing" will make some people very happy and others unhappy but in the end we will all have a great new "thing."

Are you getting this "thing" Jason?

Perhaps Redrock micro will announce the release date for microRemote iOS App interface ( This might be the "game changer" that Jason Wingrove has mentioned )

With the success of the Blackmagic Cinema Camera last year, I'm really thinking that GoPro might make the move and introduce an entry level cinema camera this year. I think I read on REDuser that their RAW recording technology is licensed from RED. They have the codec and lots of money backing them, will they make a big move?
Are you thinking of Cineform's codec?

I heard there is a good chance we will see a couple more affordable (<$6k) 4K & RAW cameras to debut at NAB. Not sure if it will be in a similar fashion as last years Black Magic...but I'll throw my money on GoPro for the hell of it.

I'm crossing my fingers for a compact $3-5k S35 4k camera (RAW would be nice, but something like Canon Log would be great!). Either way I'll be geeking out no matter what happens ;-)

It has to be some new form of a hard drive... Terabytes of storage... Allowing you to shoot all day virtually uncompressed...

Or a Lens like the lytro camera that allows you to focus in post...

Or... A real working lightsaber... Just because it's awesome to think about.

"and others unhappy". Could those others be 1st ACs?

A lens isn't really an accessory, it's a critical component of a camera, which this 'thing' is not.

Jason says above "I've held it and messed about with it" so it sounds like some kind of tactile item which one holds in the hand to get familiar with it.

I could be completely off but it's fun to analyse.

From the blog post:

video accessory all the way up to full sized helicopters

but once you understand what it does, you’ll see it will pay for itself in days relative to what other things it replaces

It’s NOT a camera… which makes it very interesting to think: what could make almost EVERY film maker out there interested in this new technology, regardless of what they shoot, regardless of budget

Sanjin, I know what you are saying, but I somewhat disagree in terms of practicality.
I recently shot a lot of footage in India as a single person 'crew' with the entire camera rig fitting in a backpack.
My backpack weighed less than the weight of the 65mm camera body alone ( at 40lbs... no lens or film mag ) and I am able to equal the quality of that camera when presented on a UHD TV set.
That is REAL 4K .
Yes, the 65mm camera makes even higher quality, but for me targeting 'only' 4K viewing this is just amazing.

Have you ever lifted a roll of 65mm film ? It's one heavy chunk of plastic I'll tell you that!

My point is which the experts know well is that no any existing CMOS 4K based system can fill balanced RGB colours at each pixel

so that is why you still get a lower IQ that is very simple to see and understand.

All other kind of the resolution matters discussion is just waste so much time...

Simply to say it's missing enough colour...or the colour BLEAKS!!!!

Yes you get an image, Hollywood already made billions with movies shot digital in 1k, 2K and 4K but IQ is far away of 65mm quality...that sucks...!!!

Can today's audience be fooled?...!!!

Yes, it can...!!!!

As I understand it LYTRO's abilities are sensor related, as it's recording the angle that the lights hitting the sensor, the final resolution is a bit weak (1.2mp) and the added file size is large.
