  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

NAB Recon thread. Feel free to post any product information you come across.

AMD has launched a new card for content creators, the Radeon Pro Duo. It's not a cutting-edge card, but it's built for work with 2 GPUs attached to 32GB of GDDR5 and three DP 1.4 outputs, with a lone HDMI 2.0B output for use with UHDTVs. Price is $999. AMD is also showing off the Radeon Pro SSG, a companion card for the Pro Duo, which is basically a big SSD connected directly to the GPU. Why would you do this? Well, it lets you pipe that video directly into the GPU, bypassing the HDD/SSD to system bus to CPU to system bus to GPU route, giving you a huge bump in efficiency and throughput when handling footage.

Good fund, but let's get real. It probably would help if these companies put a dedicated section on these GPU's to handle video, engineer and other processing (even replacing sound cards and sound processing) and sacrificing some game performance to get back many times improvements in processing. If you want two beast 3D, you add a regular card. GPU us a good commodity related solution, but the pros at the top end simply need the 10x+ performance increase. If we could identify a low end mass production use, we could get the price of a card with only the processing circuit down, like Red was doing with Redray.

Hold it, I'm not saying that. Too related to my own work. Bye.

I'll quote TeddyDem from BMCuser about Davinci Resolve 14.

-10X faster
-Price drop from $999 to $299 for Resolve Studio version
-No more dongle
-Fairlight integration

This is huge! Can't wait to try out the beta. When my Adobe subscription runs out, it's going to be REAL hard not to just 1 time buy $299 for Resolve Studio now.

Great additions, just hope the 10x faster does not me 10x worse picture. I'm struggling with the smear look on 4k material. Like to play and work faster, but also want to keep good quality images that look broadcast quality.

I'm going to say something crazy sounding L.Langer. What about if we combined this:

Resolve 14

With say this:

And 32 core zen CPU.

Or this:

HPC APU cpu

And this:

Duo radeon

Can we process maximum data rate Redcode at 8k+ resolutions in the maximum frame rate and bit depth? Or do we only need a smaller GPU card and/or CPU?

Bright Tangerine and HyperChargeBattery™

How dos the big battery/shoulderpad setup not block the air exhaust port? and how does the top plate not totally block the air intake?

Anyone have any info or links to new LED Lights at NAB 2017?

Does Resolve 14 implement IPP2?

Got several posts up about new products with videos on my instagram. redepicguy is my handle.

Here are some of my favs and not so favs!

Inovativ Cheaper Cart option coming with Group Buy - will be under $1500 for the 37" Scout NXT. Basically the same as the Scout Evo, just 7lbs heavier, different wheels, and not height adjustable. All parts can be upgraded down the line if you want as well. Starting within the next few days.

Tilta Nucleus Wireless Follow Focus - AMAZING! Best product I've seen at NAB thus far. $1200 Retail gets you the 3-axis handheld controller, 2 motors, and 2 wireless handgrips with full focus/start/stop, etc. Group Buy starting VERY shortly so get it cheaper than the $1200 list. Plus, RU will get priority allocations!! :-)

Osee Monitors - they have a whole new slew of monitors that are brighter and better built with the same color accuracy they are known for. Their new 15.6" with the soft case is great! More to come from them plus our 30% discount via group buy on any monitor they sell.

Atomos Sumo - their newest 19" HDR monitor looks pretty cool. With a retail list price of $2499, with it's high brightness and ruggedness, I'm sure it will be a winner if they can get better color accuracy than their previous generations of smaller monitors.

MoVI Carbon - will sell for under $30k which includes an A7S camera along with a Sony 24-270 zoom lens. MoVI Carbon is currently only for that camera/lens combo specifically. I spoke with Tabb and he doesn't have an ETA on other camera/lens combo support, so it will probably be a while before anything for RED comes out regarding that lovely 5-axis stabilization.

DJI Ronin 2 - saw it, hate it. Heavy, and it's an exact copycat of the MoVI Pro. The ronin will remain the knockoff. Upset that DJI can't innovate on their own like they do in for aerials. Oh well. My price speculation would be somewhere around $3500. Remember, you get the horrible DJI customer support with that price.

Vaxis - They just announced their new 1000 foot version which is a much smaller/lighter option. I talked Vaxis into having a downgrade/upgrade option for those who participated in the Group Buy here on RU. So more info on that coming soon.

Orion Anamorphics - Dan Kanes a fellow RU has helped to develop a new breed of anamorphics. They only had the 65mm on display, with a 40mm and 100mm in the pipeline. They are 2x lenses, weigh at around 6 lbs, have limited breathing, and produce an organic look to the image. Me likey. You can preorder and save $500/lens, which will retail for $6500/lens at https://atlaslensco.com I'll be shooting a music video on these soon and I can't wait!

can someone explain 5-axis to me? where are the extra two axes?
