Tilta Nucleus Wireless Follow Focus - AMAZING! Best product I've seen at NAB thus far. $1200 Retail gets you the 3-axis handheld controller, 2 motors, and 2 wireless handgrips with full focus/start/stop, etc. Group Buy starting VERY shortly so get it cheaper than the $1200 list. Plus, RU will get priority allocations!! :-)

Something tells me that its gonna be a lot more than $1200 for that kit.

riiiiiiight......

and now can someone explain what Anton just said?

Like, things can rotate in 3 directions (rotation), and they can slide up and down or left and right (translation). The last axis is forward/back but I guess you don't want the camera to just sit still.

like this but the gimbal not the sensor. Hope that makes more sense!

3axis stabilizers only stabilize rotational axes: pan, tilt, roll. These can also be stabilized to a degree by post stabilization (as long as motion blur and image skew are minimal) because they are essentially 2 dimensional and can be simulated though image pan-scan and rotation.

Translational axes are position in space: up-down, forward-back, right-left. These actually change camera perspective and cause objects in your images to change in size relative to each other and occlude each other. This cannot easily be stabilized in post. Usually it's the up-down axis that needs stabilizing the most...

You guys are totally over complicating this.

Basically the new gimballs work in the dimensions of time as well as space.
Thus the 2 new axis are directions in time.
Forwards and Backwards if you want to think of time in a primitive linear way.

This is more useful and revolutionary than you can possibly imagine.
Literally everyone is always wanting to save time on set.
Of course in practice it's not that quite that simple because of the principles and science behind "conservation of time".
I suggest you google for some of the papers that have been written on that subject in the past.
Sadly I don't have time to get into that right now as I have articles to write or I will die.

Is this why Freefly stated cost sub 30K? This could be well US$ 29.995 :)
That would be damn expensive for a fix DSLR camera/lens combo setup. What if you want to upgrade your camera later? Every 12-18 months manufacturers release a new camera that is better with more features.
Of course it is cool to be able to shoot at 240mm on gimbal/drone, BUT ...

Is it just me, or does this NAB not seem to have many major announcements? Happy for Ronin 2, DaVinci 14 as they will surely be part of my work flow. I had hoped to see a little forward momentum on 8K TV, but have not heard much from anyone. I guess Red used to have so many without them, it's a bit boring.

Any links to this?

Any links to this?

No links specifically by Tilta...you can check out my instagram which has a video of it. redepicguy is my handle

The group buy is right around the corner and my contacts at Tilta assured me the retail will be only $1200. Most things that come in at the price point, especially with a WFF are built insanely cheap and feel that way. This did not whatsoever. Felt great in the hands, and my jaw dropped to the floor, along with others around me, when they told me the price. Group buy will be even more of a savings as well.

Chris, you have no idea how excited I got about this when I saw your post here and on Instagram. I was all set to purchase the Tilta Nucleus I for $3000 soon until I saw this. Do you know what the primary differences are? It seems like the power box and motor are built into one unit on this "M" version. Is it fair to assume this means the motor is less powerful? Wondering if it is more suspectiable to heat and burning out. Just trying to make sense of this price. I feel like I'm missing something. Why would anyone get the $3000 version if this M version is less than half the price and can be used as a stand alone WFF or as a solo operator with hand control? Thanks again! Mark

Apparently the GH5 5-axis performs better than Sony's... also has a better codec too... be interesting to see if Movi go in that direction. To be honest, I'm kinda "meh" on it (though I'm sure it'll do some super good things.)

That Tilta looks hot though!!! $1200? DJI-who?

Thank you! This explains it perfectly.
